Looks like shorts and not snow pants will be in order...

Im in.

Mt Taylor sounds better for 4W LO verses the Jemez without mud/snow. I would lean on somebody that knows that area - as I have limited experience on Mt Taylor trails. Would be up to try something different.

Also the Puerco off Northern Blvd has lots of fun stuff:
  • tight, off-camber box canyons
  • soft sand hill climbs (extreme winching required on some optional hills)
  • hard rock hill climbs
  • rock gardens & ledges
  • high articulated mogul trails
  • 4 fire pits for pot luck along 5 miles of the trails

You need high clearance 4 low for most stuff but lockers/winch will be necessary for optional bits. We could have two or three different places where you could venture to explore or follow a lead to check out all the spots as a group.

If you are into rock crawling, great, you head off that direction. Others might want to try some hill climbing, while others lay back and do some sweet trail riding. You could always return to the fire pit and sit around and give each other sh%t.

Marc, can you finalize what the club will do and post up, even if you may not be able to make it. I am available to meet at a specific location as interim trail lead if you can't make it.

Either way - i'm in. Will bring blower and Grey Poupon.

If anyone is still gonna be up for the Jemez, we're gonna be hitting some trails in that area. My Dad and I, He's got his '87 4runner that he 4.3 vortec swapped with an arb in the rear and some other chassis mods on 33s and I'll be in my '97 LC on 285s. Definitely us to maybe some others from Los Alamos.

Mt. Taylor isn't very big and and probably not 4LO worthy. However, some exploring there could be followed up by El Malpais. Still not much 4LO though.

Hmmmmm I'd very much like to see an 87 w 4.3 Vortec- I'm debating this for my 88 vs a 3.4 5VZ. What's your Jemez plan generally?

I sorta vote for Jemez or even puerco over Mt. Taylor... Agree w Larry we need a guide to properly explore Mt. Taylor. The roads we ran a few weeks ago were 90% car accessible. They'd be funner with snow.

p.s. nobody says we all gotta go to the same place!
I might be game for a new years eve run as well as new years day

I am up to go and am open to whatever option. I did some traveling around Mt. Taylor in September in support of a foot race, and it was all car accessible. Just forest roads. Could be fun with some snow, but it sounds like that will not be the case. So maybe Jemez or Puerco are the best options for us.

+1 for Jemez on 1-1-18

I would probably vote FR4. The only place I can think of in the Ponderosa area is Paliza, and I thought the FS closed it ... even though they graded it purdy to fight a fire.

So it looks like Larry will lead a run in the Puerco and several others are up for some exploring in the Jemez.

I'm in for this for a Jemez run. I'd like to do some exploring around the Jemez area. I will get out my maps and see where I haven't been yet. Let's set a meeting time of 9:00 at Bad Ass Coffee on 550 next to Big-O tire, west of the river and kind of across from the Santa Ana Casino. This will give folks a little extra sleep in case they stayed up too late the night before. If you're coming from up north, we can meet you at the Walatowa visitor center or the La Cueva store, depending on your preference. If you're coming and want to make some suggestions, please do. Pappy suggested FR4. I need to figure out where that is.

Evan and I tried some new routes that went through Ponderosa. They were mildly challenging and very scenic but not very long. We had lunch at Larry's favorite spot on the side of the big open meadow, then headed north, west and then back south through Ponderosa again.

OK, I am in for the Jemez and it sounds like there is a good chance that Ellen will go along as well.

Jemez for me too.

Is there a route we would plan or just do an out and back? I went up the star when I was up there in Sept - just before the entrance to the Valles Caldera. I guess it just depends on how long we want to be out - getting stuck in snow shouldn't be a worry this year.

Han's mom is in town, so there would be 5 of us.

I'm open to suggestions.

The more the merrier.

Hey Marc,

I will take the lead for the folks that want to join us for the Puerco runs. Right now, we have confirmed Matt P., Matt B., Juan C., Frank C. and myself. I will post up our meeting stop and time once we get that sorted.

Who else is up to join us for the Puerco runs??

Larry
