Sandblasted the drip edge after scraping the old seam sealer out. Then coated everything in 2 thick coats of SPI 2-part epoxy primer. Yes, I am letting it cure in our guest room (the wife is not happy with this).

This is what I have chosen to use to seal the drip edge: SEM High Build Self Leveling Seam Sealer. My research tells me this is a very nice product. My paint shop had some samples for me to check out, and I was very impressed. A little pricey ($35 a tube).

What was the cost of the 2 part seam sealer? I am guessing it requires a special gun?

Thanks

$35 a tube.

Yes, it does require a special gun too. That was $35 as well on Amazon.

As you may have remembered, after I got the 40 put together and back on the road, I immediately noticed some burning coolant. After driving a bit more, I started to notice what I believed to be a knock. After letting @dnp and @offr0adlim0 drive it too, they agreed it sounded like a knock.

So, out came the engine. I drove it over to Jackson Cylinder Head and got them to do a full redo. Cylinders redone, new rings, new rod bearings, new cam, turned crankshaft, new crankshaft bearings, new oil pump, fluxed head and block, new freeze plugs, decked block and head, new valves, new valve bushings, and a few other little odds and ends.

Got a call today. It's ready for pick up. Woohoo!

That's some serious engine porn!

This thread is just awesome! Thanks for sharing so many details. Starting on a 78 soon, so I will be back to check some of these post.

Very nice. Why not have the block decked prior to rebuild? I like the block drain.

The block was in-spec and did not need it.

Got the engine back from the machine shop. It's slowly coming back together now.

Hey man... I can't get enough of your build!

Question for you... did you replace the check valve (filter behind filler neck) with a simple 1 way fuel filter?

I did. Not necessarily right, but that's what I did.

Everything is back together.

Once I fill up with fuilds, install distributor, and adjust valves, it ought to be ready to start.

Its almost like I have a part-time job...liking each picture in this thread and then (almost in a panic) jumping to the MS thread and liking the same pics.

Will this be driving by Christmas?

Mad props to you, Garth.

That is the hope; hopefully will get it fired up this weekend. No idea if I can make it happen though.

Got the engine back in the truck and the truck back on the road.

Now to tackle the doors and hardtop. Need to align some body panels better, adjust carb, brakes, and valves.

For now though, I’ve been driving it all over town, enjoying the weather and fruits of my labor (started almost 2 years ago).

My 2 year old daughter loves it; she constantly wants to sit in the driver’s seat and honk the horn.

I’m getting closer to having to sell this thing (that has been the plan since nearly the start of this project). As soon as I finish a project, I have to find a new one. I’m sure I’ll look for another late model 40 Series too.

But for now, I need to start thinking of selling this one that’s occupied my time for the past two years.

I could use some help from you guys (and gals) as far as figuring out what this truck is worth in this current market.

I know it’s worth a good bit, but I am not sure what kind of figure to shoot for. I don’t want to be greedy, but I don’t want to sell myself short either; I need as much as I can get to try and pay off the rest of our mortgage.

Thanks in advance!

The largest audience with disposable funds would be a Barrett-Jackson, RM Sotheby's, Russo or similar auction.
