I don't have a code related to TPS. However, I wanted to clean my throttle body. I searched all the FAQ's, but there was none for the novice like me. (Step by Step with Pics).

Can someone please send me a PDF from the FSM on how to do this? I do not even know where the TB is located. Appreciate the help.

Thanks.

If you open the hood and follow the air intake you will see a tube going into the engine. It's the big tube going in the very middle/front part of the engine. The throttle body is right behind it. go to auto zone and pick up some Carb Cleaner and a tooth brush. Unscrew the clamp and pull the intake tube off the engine head. You will have to take the engine cover off BTW.

spray some carb cleaner in there and start brushing away, make sure to push open the throttle valve and clean up top and around the edges as thats where it normally sticks...

Hope that helps.

Follow the air tube from the air filter to the first metal part (round plastic to round metal piece). Then you'll see the TB and it's flapper type valve as pictured in the above FAQ post. The point of the cleaning is to allow the flapper to move easily.

Also clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor at the same time. Buy a mass airflow sensor cleaner at the auto parts store and spray down the sensing wires. MAF is between the air filter and TB and accessed from the top with a couple of srews.

Thank you 2000UZJ and NMuzj100 for the detailed instructions. Appreciate the help. I will tackle this tomorrow and report back.

Again, thanks!

Just adding to this because I’m a novice and I had to do a little digging to figure it out even though it’s a really simple job. Here are some photos that might help the next guy that searches for

How to clean MAF and Throttle Body

Here’s the MAF sensor:

Unclip the plug and remove two screws. Pull out the sensor. Easy. Mine looked brand new:

140k miles but I just bought it 8k ago. Maybe it’s been replaced? Maybe it’s just clean. I didn’t even try to spray it, just stuck it back in.

Throttle body was also easy but a tiny bit more involved. You want to get to this:

Remove the two big clamps at each end:

Remove two 10mm screws:

Disconnect three hoses:

Once the whole plastic assembly is removed, I used CRC Throttle Body Cleaner. I held the flap open and wiped everything out as much as I could with a clean cloth saturated in the cleaner. I kept at it until the cloth came away clean.
