I've been thinking of another Cruiser project and am wondering which is more desirable ?
Lengthened 40 into a 44 or 46 or troopy ? or a king cab 45 like below ?

It depends... what is your lifestyle. Got kids or do you want to bring others for the jurney or its just you & a buddy most of the time. Do you want to sleep in the back etc. What are you going to use it for? I love all variations of the J4 body. Myself would need a 4 door like a Icon fj44 but really want a fj45 truck.

i would go double cab 45. its the best of both worlds. HOWEVER, its the hardest to pull off in my opinion. ive only ever seen 2 that i thought they got the proportions and looks right. very easy to make it look very bad

FJ43
1982 FJ43 - Matte White - FJ43-108916

FJ45
1981 FJ45 - Beige - FJ45-299237

FJ44 1/2 you need to do yourself :)

Up to now its just a picture. But I did accurately.
Its a frame (wheelbase) of FZJ80 + a rear part of FJ43. I think this combination is a golden ratio. Both from technical angle (the best suspension + retro minimalistic body) and from visual side (not too long, not too short; cool to travel around the World and comfortable to sleep).
All IMHO

It looks very proportional. Keeps stockish look.

Here is a few more. I don't know how to do photoshop so I did a old school cut paste on the 1st one.

I have been slowly acquiring the parts to build something similar to this fj45 SWB that was converted into a shorter troopy fj45. I like the proportions, big enough to sleep in but not too long either.

There are a lot of good ideas here, so have you picked an idea? I need to see someone else build something while mine collects dust.

Depends on what you want to use it for. I think Profitts nailed it for a crawler with the Bilstein rig. That 44.5 looks ideal for a classic overlander. I like the ideal of the standard cab 40 series but a FJ45 is a little rough if your tall. And extending one is hard to pull off and look good IMHO.

''Exending one'' Yes I was very picky about the length and I have seen others I thought were too short and too long. Mine is the one in my icon and at the bottom.
