Turned on the A/C today for the first time in a while. The idle speed went up to 1500 RPM. Problem is when I turned the A/C off it stayed at 1500.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jim

Try pulling the ac fuse and see if it idles down could also unplug the ac amplifier that should shut the whole ac system down The idle up solenoid might be bad basically it makes a vacuum leak and makes it idle up.

The idle selnoid may have gone bad. Had this hapen a few years ago, idle would not go down, wenot home and replaced with a new one, problem solved.

Or somehow the screw at the front of the carb got turned too far

If you put your foot underneath your pedal and pull it out does it bring them RPMs down? Or does it still stay high?

Just tried that - pulling the throttle closed drops idle from 1500 to 1000. Let go of the throttle and it goes back to 1500.

It had been idling at 750 RPM.

you can unhook the vacuum hose from the idle up diaphragm. That would at least tell you if it's linkage binding or a stuck solenoid/ac electrical signal problem.

Pulled the fuse - no change.

Took a guess on which one of three diaphragms, pulled the vacuum hose and the idle dropped to normal. Hooked the hose back up and idle stayed down.

Wonder if that part is still available?

Good info - many thanks.

Jim
