Need new radiator for 79 fj40. Anyone use the Spectra 3 core rad from Rock Auto for $225 or do I pony up for 4 core from Cool cruisers for $369? Any thoughts. Thank you

Check out OEM through @beno It's less than you'd expect.

Yes don't get suckered into their "discontinued" hype and spend more for an aftermarket one than on an OEM one... don't ask me how I know grrrrr!!!

I did order an OEM one for my 75 and it came with the drain extension and the cool OEM yellow stickered radiator cap!

Do what you want.... brand new OEM BIG BUCKS.... or have a good radiator shop fix yours. You'll be money and time ahead!!

That's is what I did..

And along the same thought, I use another shop to rebuild my orginial electrical motors, starter, blower motors, windshield motor and alternator.

My thoughts on radiator and electrical motor repair is take the original part to a craftsman who takes pride in his work, a master in their field, a specialist. Which is my opinion is better than any "off the shelf" parts.

I contacted a couple of shops to repair my OEM radiator and I got quotes north of $500. OEM new shipped under $300. Must be living in Kalifornia... :|

As I like to say, parts are cheap and labor is expensive. When you pay someone to rebuild these parts, they have to do it one at a time. In that same time, a factory can turn out hundreds of units, and you don't have to rely on the skill level of a particular craftsman.

Emission Cooling Nashville, TN .... 79 Fj40 radiator cleaned, repaired and painted "the works" for $125.

Glad I don't live in Kali....

I don't repair radiators unless they are the early straight fin ones and you really have no choice. I normally do the Champion 3 or 4 core if the customer is wanting something better than stock. Stock if they care about resale value.

Wow! My rad guy here in Ft. Myers, Fla cleaned rodded and sealed mine for $85 5 yrs ago--still running strong.

I went with an aluminum from Amazon for $248. It's worked great for 1.5 years now.

I live in Miami and my OEM rad has seen better days. Debating going the same route you took if I can find a good rad guy here. What kind of a turn around did you have for yours?
