I've checked the threads...nothing...am I the only LX owner to contemplate rattle-canning the chrome "framing" around the rear license plate to a flat or semi? If the doors have to be opened up, might just try masking instead.

I also want to know how to remove this piece. I have a new replacement part because the chrome on mine is scratched.

Iirc, it's adhesive and two tabs. Mine is black now.

Kabanstva,
Can you post a pic of the back of the new trim?

Yes, I'll look for it tomorrow and see if I can find it. I purchased the piece from Lexus last year when I got my LX and have since kind of forgot about it. Don't even know where it is but will look tomorrow.

Really prefer the older model treatment in that location; simple indent. Too much bling for my taste on my '05 LX.

I did it today - rare 60+ degree day in PNW...I ended up popping the upper frame -ez to remove w/blow dryer, but masking off the lowers. The upper has two very thin plastic pins, I broke one AFTER extracting in safely. The rigth side in the photo. Really just for alignment, as the adhesive is what is holding it in. I think the finished look is slightly better than the chrome, but not as nice as I was hoping for. (The front grill, inho, looks best of all.) Might try for a paint match to the Mica grey next time on the rear.

OK, I hate the back color less today than I did yesterday. When I do it all-over again (in my annual rattle-can operation), I might go charcoal or flat.

OregonB thank you for posting that.

It's been pretty damn cold here in Chicago last few days and I did not want to be in the garage looking for my part. Hoping it warms up soon and I can install this piece.

@OregonB this trim surrounding my license plate has been loose on mine since I bought in in May. Looks like the top right clip is broken. Your photos are gone from this thread, any chance you have advice for removing the piece or replacing the clips? Or is it just some double sided tape will solve the problem? Thanks in advance....

If I recall correctly, there were two small plastic alignment pins that possibly help *a little* to hold it in. No clips. In my opinion it was the OEM mastic/glue that holds this against the body. I used the highest quality doubled sided tape I could find & a few clamps to bond it. It still isn't perfect tight to the body, but does not rattle.

Think I deleted the old pics at my end, sorry. As I noted before, just work slowly with a blow dryer and a spudge or other non-scratching tool (plastic putty knife?) & work it out. There's just two small plastic pins that fit into holes in the body, the rest is mastic/glue.

btw, if anyone has a tip on replicating the OEM adhesive, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for the update and quick reply! If it’s just glue or tape, I may not even try to remove it. If I can just slip some good adhesive behind and press it tight, that might be enough to hold it. That’s basically how my license plate is held on now. I need to drill out the sheared screws so I can reattach properly...
