As you may have noticed, I have made many attempts to get answers on my LV hinge repair. Having minimal machining skills, it has taken a while.

I removed the original hingepin with heat and a large hammer. Of course, the original bushings were shot. After looking for solutions, I settled on these oil impregnated bushings. They have an ID of 8mm and an OD of 12mm. The upper and lower "barrel" of the hinge had a diameter of "around" 8.35. It had been worn pretty well over the years.

So, my buddy with "an awesome set of tools" used his milling machine and gunsmithing skills to drill the middle "barrel" out to accommodate the 12mm OD bushings. He then drilled both the upper/lower barrels to 8.5mm and also the bushings that were just installed.

He then made a new pin out of 8.5mm stock....wholla! Finding and settling on the bushings was a big challenge.

Hope this helps somebody.

That is very similor to what i have been doing for the 8 years to the rear barn door hinges for the 70series troopies. After fitting the bushes I drill a 5mm hole and tap a 6x1 thread and fit a grease nipple between the busher. I havent had to rebuilt one yet. Done about 100 of them. It supprised me how long they have lasted even with the spair tire hanging on them.
