It looks like their may be an affordable simple solution to converting 24v to 12v.
Buy Cheap 30A DC24V to DC12V Car Negative Booster Power Inverter 18V-32V Input,DC24V to DC12V Power Inverter
Just wondering if anybody else has tried these negative booster power inverters? I just had one sent to me from a friend who repairs CAT scans and MRI's and other medical equipment for a living. He was in the process of building me a traditional resistor based 24-12 volt converter when he came across this technology.
These negative boosters rely on a PWM (pulse width modulating) CMOS (complimentary metal oxide semiconductor) chips. Basically from what I understand, they convert the 24v DC into an AC current and then back into 12v DC. Because their are no resistors being used they are much more efficient and produce very little heat.
These units are very cheap to manufacture and cost a fraction of resistor based units. In fact the 15amp unit I received was only $30, which is less then my friend could buy the parts to build me a resistor based converter.
I have not had a chance to try it out yet but will report back when I do.
