Hey dudes, wasn't too sure which forum I should be posting this one in, but I'm currently remaking the wiring harness from an H55F tranny / t-case off an HJ75, and want to remove a connector, but I am stuck.

Has anyone ever attemted to remove the backshell of one of these connectors:

I can't figure it out! I've taken the o-ring off, the rubber boot off the back and wiggled and prodded every part of it with a tiny screwdriver, but still cant get the terminals out of the shell!

The connector attaches to the tacho sender.

I need to take it off to feed heatshrink over the top to complete the wiring harness. I know I'm being a bit pedantic, but I want to do a good job on this wiring harness by using heatshrink rather than wrapping it up with tape - which only allows all the oily dirt inside.

Anyone ever taken one apart?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Matt

I've been able to get those apart before, and here's how i did it:

- use a small screwdriver to pry out the rubber sealing grommet at the end where the wires enter the terminal. slide it back a good couple of inches if possible to give your self room to wiggle each wire out

- Use a terminal tool (looks somewhat like a slim screwdriver) at the opposite end of the connector. Above each of the brass terminal blades that are visible at the terminal end, you should be able to see a little space or indent - this is where the terminal tool gets inserted. Push it in as far as it will go (about 0.5"/1cm) and lever down slightly with the tool to push the catch tab in the terminal blade down - - and, at the same time, pull the wire from the back side and you should be able to get it out. It's a matter of getting the little catch tab pressed down so it doesn't hook on the inside of the terminal slot.

If my explanation is confusing, i might be able to post up some pictures - if I have a spare one of those terminals kicking around I can demonstrate upon.

Have a go and let us know if you succeed. Last resort is to cut the wires, do your other work, and then re-splice
