Hi Mud,
I listed this several months ago. We bought a more family friendly vehicle that had more power, more room, was more comfortable, and got better gas mileage. However, it was not dependable and quickly left my wife stranded. We went back to this Landcruiser as our daily driver, put over 6,000 trouble-free miles on it. We finally found a different vehicle that better suits our needs, so this is up for sale again. Though it does need an oil change now, something that I can certainly take care of.

I'm selling an almost entirely stock FJ80, owned previously by another Mudder. This particular rig has quite a bit of history. I believe it's been only owned in the PNW, bought originally in Idaho, went to Washington, Oregon, and finally back to Idaho. Even has the original receipt! There's multiple threads that at least mention the rig on mud.
It runs well, stops well, and handles well, on the whole. It's a good daily driver candidate. Obviously, the paint is not good.
There are a set of quirks and it's not fully baselined. But it's far from the least sorted FJ80 out there.
I bought this to be a backup vehicle to our FZJ80. Which, I understand the logic at the time, but in practice has meant paying for and working on two Landcruisers and unnecessarily so. Part of it is that we live 7 miles down a gravel road that is hard on suspension, and we wanted a rig that would hold up. And the 80 series Landcruisers really do hold up well. I love driving this one, but our other one is nicer. And our family is growing to the point that we are debating getting out of 80s altogether. It does fit 8, but with little trunk space to spare and it's not the most straight forward to mount two car seats to. So, we know this one has to go.
The biggest issue right now is that the power steering pump seems to be going out. I bought a recently rebuilt pump off Ebay for $350. I went to put it on and couldn't get the old pump out. I found that the pulley was stuck on, despite being wobbly. The pump can't come out with the pulley out. I'm pretty sure that I could get the pulley off with enough force, but I'd probably need another pulley. And so I searched for the NLA pulley, and found it for $440. Decided not to spend the money on the pulley.
The good thing is that if the pump goes out, there's a belt that goes just around the pump. With a 14mm wrench you can pull the belt off and proceed, albeit without power steering. I'm sure there's other pump options, or perhaps biting the bullet and getting the pulley is the way to go.
The lesser immediate issues:
I think the tires need to be balanced.
The radiator is very poor quality and had to be ziptied to mount. I would recommend replacing it, or at least having a higher quality spare on hand. (By the way, if you do a manual swap you can get modern radiators from Toyota for these.)
Power steering hard lines should be remounted.
Other than those three issues, I think this is a pretty solid vehicle. And none would keep me from driving it, but I'd be nervous to let my wife drive it and expect her to take off the power steering pump -- and then drive it without, if it went out. So definitely the most serious right now.
I tend to see 13-15MPG with it. 15 if mostly highway.
Performance wise, I think it's where a 3FE should be. It's definitely slower than our 1FZ, but feels like it has a bit more "torque" right off the line. It's probably an illusion, or maybe a transmission difference, but it has good "get up and go" right off the line. And not much after that, of course. It'll cruise at highway speeds, especially if the highway is 60-65. And it can go quicker than that, it's just not winning races. Now I did have a FJ60 once with a tired 2F, and that was just too slow for me. I have towed 1,000-2,000lbs with it. It's slow, annoying at times, but also can be endearing. I find it usable.
I think this would be a great rig to do a manual swap with, which would definitely help with the usable power and make it a bit more economical.
Unlike (most) FZJs, this one has a great parking brake!
10k (er, now 16k) miles on 31" BFG KO2 C-rated tires. I think they are holding up well and I've been quite happy with them.
Here's a list of things I have written up about it:
## In good condition.
* Emissions equipment: Removed (except for air injection lines)
* Oil change: Current
* Suspension: Feels decent
* Steering: Could maybe use new tie rod ends.
* Spark plugs/wires: New and good (2019 Yakazi)
* Brakes: Excellent, for what they are. Good feel.
* MPG: Around 13-15
## Needs attention
* Cooling system: Has some leaks (Might be fixed?)
* Last valve adjustment: Unknown.
* Paint: Not good.
* Can have a minor amount of steering wobble twitchiness hitting bumps.
* Idle isn't totally smooth.
* Driveline clunk.
* Driveline vibration. Maybe needs a couple of U joints?
* Outside air leak / cold area in passenger foot area when outside air intake is open.
* Mirrors should be replaced with OEM. Passenger mirror doesn't tilt in far enough.
* Rear window sprayer not working.
* Bumper/passenger side was in some kind of accident. Maybe hit a deer? Bumper is pushed in 1-2"
* Missing (passenger) bumper extension (now installed) and front (pasenger) mud guard.
* Oil Leaks
* Appears to be leaking at rear main seal.
* Appears to be leaking at oil pan.
* Rear passenger window regulator needs to be replaced.
* ATF is high.
* Power steering pump needs to be rebuilt. Have a rebuilt replacement, but probably need a new pulley first.
* Speedometer drive leaking from transfer case.
* Power steering high pressure hose seems to leak in multiple places.
* Cold air draft when fresh air intake is open (not recirc)
* Driver side rear marker light housing needs to be replaced.
* Maybe replace O2 sensor?
* Should have better radiator installed.
* Needs new upper radiator mounts.
* Fan shround is not installed, because of the new radiator.
* P/S hose mounting needs to be improved. Need to buy some more rubber P/S line mounts.
## Modifications
* Partial rear heater delete: 3FE - Heater Valve, Rear Heater Delete, and One-Piece Molded Heater Hoses - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/3fe-heater-valve-rear-heater-delete-and-one-piece-molded-heater-hoses.1329109/
## Towing
* Rear bumper hitch installed.
* Flat 4 plug wired up.
Certainly not an exhaustive list. The passenger rear window regulator needs to be replaced. I have it held up with a wedge. I think it probably could use tie rods. It doesn't steer quite as nicely as our FZJ. It's still better than my truck that I did ball joints and the steering box on, though.
I can drive this to Moscow, Saint Maries, Spokane, or Coeur D'Alene if you are seriously interested in it. I have a number of receipts and service records. I've printed my service records, but also have digital copies if you'd like.
Asking$7,000 $6,000.
Photos to follow.
Thanks for reading!
PS: It's a blue-grey. I'm not sure what the correct name for the color is.
