Anybody here running ham radios vice CBs on their trail rigs? If so, what are you using?
The Rising Sun folks use them extensively in Colorado for mountain communication. I have a CB in my 80 in Colorado, but am thinking of installing a ham in addition. Any thoughts or users? Thanks, Terry

I have an Icom 2200H in my 80. I pulled the CB out, but will put it in temporarily for trail runs. I haven't had the chance to use the 2m on the trail much, but when I have, the audio quality is excellent, and range is much better than the CB.

I have the yaesu 7800 and really like that radio....well built and solid and the ability to mount the head unit anywhere while the main body is under the seat is very nice

Yaesu puts together a nice radio, Vary easy to use. I just remove an FT 8800 from my truck and replaced it with a Kenwood D710. I am a big fan of the dual band radios it is nice to be able to monitor both your trail simplex frequency and a local repeater. If Yaesu made a radio with built a built in TNC and APRS I would switch radios again, who knows the 8800 might make it back into the truck yet if I can't figure out how to do everything I need to on the Kenwood. Hope to hear you on the air next time I'm passing throw.
