looks like my nephew is going to be picking up number 6. She's going to be staying with me this summer and I am calling for an all hands on deck Meeting/meetings over the summer to help him get the cruiser up to a good baseline.

With out getting into too many details he had a rough life.
Broken home and homeless until his dad could find him and get a custody.
Any sign "strangers" care about him and the ability to learn a real skill set will change his life for the positive.

Landspeeder took a pretty big loss on this rig so we could afford it and have some money left over.
I usually hate these thing but in this case I think it deserves it
:cheers::clap::cheers:

This is what we are starting with
He will have $700-$1000 to base line it and I know that it needs a speedo and front breaks already.

If you have any time, parts, materials, tools,or anything else that you would be willing to donate or sell cheap I would greatly appreciate. He owns nothing but an old x box and a cell phone.

Remember This is for a kid so I'm not looking to build a monster tuck; just something that will get them through college and allow him to have some fun.

Thanks for any help guys

Up date: should be getting the rig tomorrow..

Start a list (Safety is the only real priority eveything else is icing) The stereo is BA though... Eric help me out..

!) we need new front rotors an pads
2) we need to a birf swap with bearing and seal job
3) Knock sensor?
4) O2 sensor?
5)I will change all gear oil soon
6) front bumper I have one just need to make sure I got all the parts and get it on.
7) seats need to be fixed (both don't work but the driver side is the important one)

Non Safety
1) seat cover or used leather
2) radio
3) had minor leak (maybe oil pump seal)

Update
We have used 40th leather
A dash cluster
A front end rebuild kit!
We have a radio dvd player
Maybe a set of tools..
I feel like I'm forgetting something

I don't want to build a monster just something that will get them through college and allowed to have some fun.

that's awesome, great news. you can have my old seat leather when I install the new. It could probably be restitched on the driver seat while it is off.

Sweet!.. I might ask you to help him make a tube bumper too if you have time..
I want him to do the work though.

I've got a dual din dvd player (one of those chinese cheap models from ebay) that wouldn't fit my 100 series because of the curve of the dash hit the rotating face I'll throw in. I trimmed the dash and ended up messing it up and having to replace it for about $100. It plays dvds, has bluetooth and was a nice, plain unit. no nav or gps though. I think it would probably fit an 80 series.

This is great! I am losing money in this thing, but honestly, I could care less! This is a perfect scenario to lose in. As long as HE cares, is all that matters... Ironically enough I initially bought this beast because MY nephew was going to be in town and I thought he'd need something to drive. I learned quite quickly that good intentions don't mean shunt unless the receiver gives a damn. LOL. So hopefully this nephew does, and not just clank!
Let's get this build going!

How much you want for the radio?
Edit:
Oh crap your donating it!
This great.!

This great he's had a rough life and knowing there are strangers thst would pull together for him will be a life changing experience.

It cursed me by making me dremel my stock dash bezel creating the only squeaking noise in the truck :bang: and requiring a new $100 bezel, so maybe it will help him. A 100 series has to have a fixe face radio so I went with the pioneer appradio and use the ARLiberator app to mirror my phone on the radio. :D

It has the microphone built in the front panel for handfree calling and worked really well. Wiring is a breeze with one of the harnesses from crutchfield etc.. I even have an extra cheap backup camera I'll throw in the box. It is the kind where you have to drill a hole to install and I ended up mounting a box type camera under the rear hatch lid like the stock setup. Just run the cable to the rear and get a reverse signal to the radio, and it will will automatically activate when shifting to reverse. I have mine setup where the trailer ball is barely visible at the bottom of the screen and is a huge improvement in backing up.

I travel a lot but will be in town this week and next, so let me know when you want it.

I haven't even met you but you are a true friend.!
Thank you

And you would be a real hero if you could figure out the factory radio pigtail issue on this beast! It has a radio, but the pigtail isn't receiving power. Basically, this kid would do good for having a radio guy help him one weekend get the radio functioning. Anyone should LOVE that head unit you're donating! That thing looks nice!

Did you check fuses? You could always run a hot and keyed power source, but usually that is something simple.

Only a few times.
This rig had no HU when I bought it, cause the PO had a custom system in it. I'm guessing its because of that. You'd have to see the setup. I slapped an OEM HU in there thinking viola! But no viola. And the pig tail does not get power, that much I know cause of a light tester.

If you need any factory parts, let me know. I probably won't be able to do free but I can help out on price. I think we already looked up the speedo and it wasn't too bad. Anyway, let me know.

speedo was definitely worth buying new... especially since folks think they got gold used, when that circuit board can go at any minute...

I have a set of basic craftsman tools in a blow molded case that I can add to the cause and also a set of 6.5" Polk DB651 NIB from an old build that never got finished he can have, that is if Andy or whoever is able to get the Radio sorted out. I am guessing since it didn't have a radio, it probably didn't have any speakers either?

Where are you in AL?

I don't know how close you are, but Zack (I can't remember his screen-name right now, zheard or bamazack maybe) had an 80 he was parting that you might could get some parts off, depending on what you need.

I changed usernames, that was coolhand's 80 it just lived in my yard because Luke had his house listed. It went to Arkansas when he moved.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was going back thru some old posts trying to find something, but I wasn't having any luck and was even more confused when I saw folks calling this username Zack...

I always know by the tin-foil hat.
