So, has anyone done this clean and not cheap and slapped together?

I saw one guy using this, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus LX450 4.5 24 Valve Turbo Manifold - TREADSTONE PERFORMANCE

Then add 1 part 255 fuel pump, 1 part circuit opening relay bypass mod, 1 part ID725cc injectors, 1 part 3bar map sensor, and 1 part

DIY PLUG AND PLAY PROGRAMMABLE ECU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUH......

I'm pretty sure that this one is a plug and play deal. :) I'd sure like to know if someone has tried it yet.

Throw on some custom exhaust and an intercooler, and whala. You'll probably have an easy 450 hp street 6 cyl truck on pump gas, and I almost bet you wouldn't have to change any internals. A good Cometic head gasket AT THE MOST. IMO. just IMO. Totally just shooting from the hip.

I'll tune your truck for free if anyone wants to try it..... I would but I'm on the V8 path.

I don't think it is all that simple with our particular motor and ECU... I think this gentleman who's links are below has a pretty good handle on what your are asking about! Also, there is a Australian company that has a full blown kit for a poultry $8,900 :grinpimp:

Time will tell!

Been doing this a long time. It is a pretty general recipe, so I left out all the knuckle busting, hootin hollerin, head scratchin, sailor swearin nights. :bang:

I just thought that was understood......

Well, I humbly apologize!! Looks like you've been around the block once or twice... I look forward to what you come with for us 1fz guys! Subscribed to your other threads! I have always felt that there is more in my motor even without FI!:cheers:

hmmmm...I've always been pretty satisifed with the power output of my 1FZ-FE. Granted, I rebuilt it about 25K ago, punched it out to 4.6L and upped the compression a bit. My biggest concern since it is my DD (by choice), it reliability and longevity. I also know horsepower is one thing, stopping is something else.

However, I am working on a mod right now that may make a few more ponies and/or up the MPG slightly for less than $100. I'm hitting the dyno this weekend to see if it all works.

well, I'm on pins and needles....

recipe= built, carb'd 350 V8 swap!

not a lot of cost difference if you get a good used motor and much better reliability and no tuning issues

Shhhhh.

Yeah, I hear you... I just love the 1FZ-FE motor and like to keep the truck stock, in appearance at least! Also, here in California when you do a engine swap you have to take it to a referee. This sometimes can be a real PITA!!! However, a turbo was a dealer add-on so, as long as it passes visual inspection and doesn't throw any codes you are good to go!

Please show us where you got this info.

I hate to be so opinionated but....what you describe is exactly "cheap and slapped together".

That manifold lacks some serious design elements on top of being of questionable manufacture and/or quality of material. Put 50K miles plus on one and see how it holds up.

How do you know if fuel pressure at your rail is even falling off, holding steady, varying? Why add some crappy Wallbro pump that will likely burn out in 20K miles?

Are the stock injectors not delivering enough fuel? What 725CC injectors are you sourcing that are a direct fit and cycle properly? And what are you basing your need to purchase them and install them on?

And you're just going to easily do a DIY plug and play ECU without any AWD dyno time? And it'll be better how and why than the stock ECU based on what?

Oh, and don't forget that before you do anything on your 100K mile plus 1FZ-FE you'll have to tear the engine down and do at least a new head gasket - that's ~$200 for a Cometic one - and then maybe the ARP studs - again, another $200 - plus whatever you have in the head work - complete valve job would be worthwhile, you going to port and polish the head and intake manifold runners? Keep the register clicking, brother!!! Better make sure your oil pump and water pump and radiator and coolant fan clutch are all new. No reason to be penny-wise, dollar dumb now.....

.....

You're the reason I made this thread. :)

Actually, it was aimed at guys that HAVE already done a turbo. Have you?

Don't forget, the words, "shootin from the hip"

Would you like for me to seriously answer as to what I'd do for a recipie, or what? I'm just pokin around to see what others have done, maybe that haven't made a thread about it, or would like to chime their two cents in like you. Small talk really. I've never seen that manifold in person, that's why I asked. Have you seen them fail, are they giant pieces of crap?

Yes, I'd use ID725's for injectors, and I know a little about them. I don't know if they are a direct fit or not. Probably though. Lots of folks change fuel rails these days.

MS2, or Motec, ehh, their all the same right? These are far LESS superior than a factory computer from the early 90's right?

I have a dyno where I work. So, yes, I'd put it on a dyno, if I wanted a Mustang dyno, there's like 4 others in the area.

Walbro. Why would I, well, I have one in my 1998 Supra from about 5 years ago that's rockin away in the tank still, so I'm good with that. AS well as all the other supra's and many other car projects that I've been a part of that didn't require an 044 or larger or set of fuel pumps.

And, yes, I already easily did a PNP. That was last week. This week I'm busy, so I'll install it either this weekend, or next week...

I see where your going.. the money never ends does it. BUT HEY! IT'S FUN!

Can you Turbo or Supercharge without having to modify the ECU?

Yes, the TRD unit for the 1FZ-FE does not change anything with the ECU, nor fueling system. That is so it is CARB compliant in all 50 states.

Now, the problem is that it is likely not optimal for overall performance. Safe, yes, smog-certified, yes, but the most HP and economy, no.

My rig has had a Kazuma TRD kit for the last 60,000 miles, and it works well. However, I would be interested in an engine management system which was tunable and allowed for higher boost (6psi at present) and better overall fuel economy. Have had the rig on an AWD dyno and all hell breaks loose with the engine fueling management above 4200 rpm...see the chart. Yes, the black line is the system dumping fuel like it is $0.19 a gallon.

A system with a wideband sensor, MAP sensor, laptop tune-able and the like would be great for the boosted crowd. Of course, if the solution were somehow able to pass OBDII, all the better.

Watching the thread with interest.

Steve

Steve, on your dyno chart, what are the faint dashed lines and the tan line?
