I just got this LX450 last week and I wanted to get my Ham radio into it. The PO had one and left the antenna mount, external speaker and a cable for his own radio. The main (faceplate) cable was incompatible with my radio so I had to undo his wiring. I also undid the old speaker and placed mine under the cup holder on the center console.

To mount the radio I took out the little card holder doohicky and modified the dash mount into it. I drilled some holes into the front of it and got some new longer screws and now it is screwed on from the outside. I ran the faceplate cable in through the back of this where I drilled a hole. The mic is also mounted on the console next to the cup holder.

The radio is mounted back here since the PO had power already to go:

Modified mount above the tape player, this doesnt show the screws going in from the front holding it in:

I like where you put the head unit/face.
Only thing I wonder about is how the mount for it will hold up - will it act like a diving board and bounce up/down on washboards?

But it looks SOLID so maybe not.

This is the Kenwood mount I had on my dash in my FJ Cruiser. When I sold that I took it out. Now in the 80 it's bolted and super glued into the slot there. The mount itself is naturally somewhat flexible but so far on the road it's pretty steady. :hillbilly:

How do you like the radio? I'm leaning toward the Yaesu FTM350...but the Kenwood 710 has a lot of the same features. I have a FT60 so I'm familiar with the Yaesu menu system.

You bought Ken's old ride? Sweet Cruiser.
