Transmission codes 62 and 63

I have a 93 with 164,000 miles on it.

I have owned it for 11 months and 14 thousand miles

Tranny was flushed using the method discribed somewhere on this fourm about 13,000 miles ago (fluid looks good still)

Kickdown cable was adjusted

Preformed some PM, plugs wires cap rotor, Front end rebuild (nothing recent(last 45 days))

Issue- transmission while in drive

Sometimes dosen't start in (1) from a cold start
Sometimes won't shift back to (1) like when accelerating from a stop light/sign

If when this occurs I shift it to (L) it goes into L acceleates normal , then I go to 2 when as I speed up and then to D

It seems like a solonoid issue?

Dosen't seem to matter if tranny is hot or cold

I seached thru 6 pages of results with no revelent luck

I pulled the codes Getting 62and 63 anyone have experience with either of these?

So If you come across this post, having similar solonoid issues, make sure you go to your FSM.

More than likley you are having issues with Solonoid No1 and Solonod No 2 the FSM tells you that there is an internal electrical issue with the solonoid.

They are 195.50 from toyota X2 so about 400.00 plus shipping.

When I needed them, Cdan was not going to be able to get them for me for 10 plus days. At the time the East Coast and Mid West were experiencing a major winter storm. And the mainwhareouse that American Toyota gets its parts from had one, I needed Two.

I used the net to track them down Toyota Part number 85420-60050

I got mine thru Carson Toyota in Southern CA (they have special web pricing, you must ask for it) , they were 150.00 each Cdans price was better but the way Toyota Distributes the parts, he was not able to get Two from the same wharehouse.

I wanted to get the rig fixed ASAP who has two weeks to wait for parts.

Anyway- hope this helps

I have done some reading in the FSM and it appears to be should say it is a solonoid issue
Solonoid no 1 and no 2 in the tranny

Sounds like a pretty simple fix, anyone do it?

Ok the parts came from Carson Toyota as prommised. Its a pretty easy install.

Drop the pan the solonoids are right there, they are the middle two according to the FSM

Switched them out and it seems to have fixed it (first 2 miles)

did the new solenoids take care of it?

I know your last post said the new solenoids seemed to have fixed your transmission problem but it said "first 2 miles" so I was wondering if the problem ever resurfaced? I'm assuming no, since you haven't posted anything else about it but was just curious because I've been reading several similar posts about this shifting problem and everyone says that the problem seems to come and go with no real pattern and my 1993 80 is doing the same thing... one person said the new solenoids fixed his.. .another guy said he replaced them and it didn't fix the problem... it's been several months since you posted this so I was wondering if yours has been all good since replacing the solenoids?

Is your 'check engine' light illuminated? Have you checked the electrical connections on the transmission itself?

I went through this, and am one who found success in changing the solenoids, but your issue may be completely different.

JasonYY did have success, as he mentioned he had success with new solenoids in this thread:

More specifically, this post:

spdwaver1 - your thread is one of the ones I read yesterday while looking for more information on this issue... I know it looks like you jumped through a lot of hoops before finally replacing the solenoids and I guess yours has not had any more problems since then?

My check engine light is not on; I have not checked the electrical connections for the transmission yet, I've just been reading threads on here and trying to figure out what to do... as I said, yours seemed to be fixed by the solenoids and another guy that seemed to have the same issue replaced them and it didn't fix it and he hasn't posted anything else yet... this thread said replaced solenoids fixed it after apparently only driving 2 miles and then nothing else was posted here.. 2 miles didn't seem like enough time to say that it was definately fixed given that most have said this issue comes and goes without any real pattern and that is how mine has behaved.. doesn't do it every day.

I just wanted to get as much info as possible before I shell out $300-$400 for the new solenoids and then that doesn't fix it.

I guess I will start by checking those connections and see what they look like

I did not want to throw away ~$300 (no offense, CDan) on two solenoids either, but I was fortunate that through the lengthy diagnostic process I was offered excellent advice by those who have experienced similar issues, and it worked.

I have not had one single recurrence of the issues I described in that thread since the replacement of the solenoids.

Check everything that you can (especially the electrical connections) and post up before you come to any conclusions.

So which link describes the diagnostic process you took? I am seeing similiar symptoms.
Thanks

My thread is linked above.

In the thread I started, there were various methods that I used in the process of elimination, such as visually inspecting the connectors/cleaning the terminals, changing fluid and cleaning the filter, but the electrical test, which was taken from the manual, did not prove anything conclusively.
