Well, I guess it's bound to happen at some point..

Wife called all giddy to tell me that my new tires showed up at the house!!! After work... get in the truck, insert key and NO GO!!!

I wiggled it and after about 15-minutes of fiddling with it, I'm over it! The key is a copy, no originals from previous owner. The key has worked great up to this point.. but the key is old and a copy of a copy.

So my question is, can I get new factory keys from Toyota based from my VIN#?

Yep, from a dealer...I just did this, I was in the same boat. My dealer wanted to see proof of ownership, like current registration. New keys work perfectly.

WOW!!! I just called Cabe Toyota Long Beach and spoke to Roger as he is the master key guy and fellow TLC enthusiast there! Since my truck is old enough, he is able to use my VIN# and cut me a key! SWEET!

He is even going to cut it, send it to me and when I return from my business trip in a week, I will have a fresh new key. I will try that one, and if that works I will have a couple more keys made!

FINGERS CROSSED!!!

no idea what it cost, as I was buying other stuff at the time. but, I did have him make two keys at the same time, and both worked perfectly. glad Roger's taking care of ya!

Got my new key in the mail last week while away on business.

The old key, of which was a copy, just wore out. Called my buddies over at Cabe Toyota in Long Beach where able to use my VIN# and proof of ownership.

THANK YOU ROGER MAGANA of CABE TOYOTA!!!
IT WORKS!!!

AND FLAWLESSLY EVERY TIME! Yes, this has fixed my issue that just seemed to "all of a sudden" start happening a couple of weeks ago and to the point where I could not drive the truck home from work.

Give the guys at Cabe Toyota a call if you need assistance: 562.595.7411 Roger is a Cruiser fan and enthusiast, he's no "DAN" but I just needed some quick help and a simple solution. My buddy Herb who also works there introduced me to Roger the last time I was in there so thank you too HERB!

Again, Roger - THANK YOU!!!

PS: They honor TLC Members as well, just have your member number ready.

It's the simple things like these that make us happy!!!:)
