Guys,

I have a question here. I have Denso winch that I bought from a TLC80 owner (used couple times). I installed it on my 1943 Willys MB. I think I got everything right, but just wanted to make sure. Here is how it looks now: I connected the yellow wire to the plus but what is the black wire with red spots? I think they both used to go the ignition switch. The winch works but draws electricity if plus is connected to the battery all times. So I connect it only when I use it. The winch pulls but kind of weak. And when I have the engine running, even at a relatively small load the engine wants to stall, seems that alternator gets so tight that the engine can't rev it. I'm running an old soviet engine (I'm in what used to be USSR) but I have a Volvo 90 AMP generator.

I am thinking maybe I did smth wrong with wiring?...

Thanks!

I do not know how much this is going to help as I am not 100% on this but the 80's electric winch had another solenoid under the battery that is called "Magnet Switch #1" in the FSM. My understanding is that "Magnet Switch #1" controls the flow of power to the winch motor and is only closed when the winch remote is connected and this is also how the overheat circuit works.

Basically the black wire coming in is switched positive from the ignition switch which is then wired internally in the winch assembly to the remote and when the remote is connected the switched positive coming in from the ignition switch through the black wire is sent out through the yellow wire to "Magnet Switch #1" which closes and supplies main power to the winch.

On my 1990 80 with the factory electric winch the wires coming out are yellow and black with a blue trace which matches the factory EWD I have.

Louis (lshobie) had an 80 series electric winch he installed on his 70 series so he would be a good guy to ask any questions you have:

Sorry Drilldeeper I just got your message here and saw you were having winch problems but it looks like you things under control. To tell you the truth I can't remember what went where when I wired it back up. The winch should pull really good if its wired up right, I pulled out my neighbors 25 year old tree this summer(with a little digging around the base of course) and it ripped that stump out like a dandelion.

Thanks a lot. I'll take a closer look at the diagram. It's cold now to go outside and dig in the wires and I got a cold too. But thanks for your reply.

I hope I can use the winch and depend on it. But if you have any more discoveries, please do let me know.

Thanks!
