I finally finished installing my Metaltech sliders on my 94. I took me and a buddy three different sessions to make them fit. Its not as easy as it seems, atleast for me.
First off, the guys at Metaltech our awesome. Great service and excellent tech support. LT even gave me his cell number so that if I had any problems during the install over the weekend I can contact him.
The first session, we got the driver side on pretty easy, but the passenger side was a pain. The top hold threaded into the cat guard was filled with powder coat and made is real difficult to get the bolt in. Also, the cat guard was in contact with the cats and it had the most annoying rattle known to mankind.
I went to my grandpas house for the second session. We pulled off the passenger side slider and grinded down the cat guard parts that were touching. Also, I was very lucky to find out that my grandpa has ONE thread insert kit that it the size matched the Metaltech bolt size. LT has already sent me an extra bolt just in case. The old bolt was done after we took it off. The new bolt fit into the insert perfectly. We also loosened the drivers side to move higher. BIG PROBLEM.
As soon as I got on the road, thinking that i was rattle free here we go again, another annoying rattle under the driver side. I asked Mark at Metaltech and he suspected the front bracket was touching the body. He was right.
On the third sessin, we pulled the drivers side down and grinded two openings on the front bracket so that it clears the body. Then finished with some white pain(i thought i had black but i didnt). Check out the pics. Got them on and drove out without any rattles.
I have never had such a difficult install, but I guess I havnt done much to the car just yet. It was well worth it, and the sliders look badass.
Mark at Metaltech also informed me that the next batch of sliders for 93-94 will be adjusted to fit nicer so nothing to worry about.
The three sessions put a delay on my lift, but Slee 4" and 35" KM2s are withing a months range.
