First I really want to thank all who contribute on this forum. I had a very loud set of headers and fixed them, thanks to this forum. I also had a bad gasoline smell in the cab for awhile. After searching this forum, figured out it was my fuel injectors. Well first I learned not to drive it at all with when you can smell gasoline:doh:. I always thought of myself as a horrible mechanic, however yesterday, I replaced all fuel injectors and most of the vacuum lines. And to my amazement, the truck actually started and drives great. I'm still proud of myself. Thanks again everybody.

Found this weird looking thing and was just curious as to what it is?

Manual Trans, right?

It's a VTV... Part of the Dash Pot system. According to the FSM: "To reduce HC and CO emissions, when decelerating the dash pot opens the throttle valve slightly more than at idle. This causes the air-fuel mixture to burn completely."

Page EC-8 in my 1985 4Runner / Pickup FSM.

X2 - Part of the dash pot system. That specific part is the filter section of it. There is a little filter in there that can get pluged up sometimes.
