Howdy folks,

My thread here will not be nearly as exciting as the others I have read, but I'm still honored that it is the ROTM for March.

I previously owned a 91 Toyota 4x4 Pickup and became interested in off-roading after going on a several trail rides with a friend of mine. I was going to set my truck up to be more capable for where I wanted to take it, but quickly realized that I would be dumping more money into it then I was comfortable with considering it had been re-done two years prior. It was set up more for looks and comfort then capability, so it made no since to "re-invest" more cash into it.

I sold it as it was in early June 09, and began my search for a DD/rig that had what I wanted. I happened to see a for sale thread on here and contacted the owner. After several emails and phone call's I flew down to Texas and looked at it. I knew it needed some work, but it had everything I wanted in the way of capability, so we struck a deal on August 1, 09.

I have replaced the items that needed immediate attention like the pitman arm, idler arm, sway bar bushings, CV axles, brake booster, master cylinder, turned the rear drums, alignment, new KM2 tires, etc...

I have also fixed the smaller "convenience" items like the fan blower switch, re-worked the sunroof switch (made one good out of two bad switches) trouble shot the CB power issue, re-worked the CB Mic connector, cleaned the carpets, re-worked and lubricated the rear tailgate guts and glass regulator, added a 3 outlet 12v hub, etc...

Due to life being as hectic as it was the second half of 09, I was never able to get off-road with it to any extent. I was finally able to get some serious trails under it's belt the first weekend in February. I went down to North Georgia for a GATTORA Rescue Tellico event as well as a ride hosted by Offroad Outfitters.

During the Offroad Outfitters ride I had some breakage happen just before the last hill to get out of the area we were in. I grenaded the right CV axle and at the same time my rear ARB locker decided to disengage and not work again (air leak). So stuck with no four wheel drive and no rear locker, it had to be rescued. With the help of my buddies (misterzee) SAS'ed 87 4Runner and a Jeep, it was pulled up the muddy hill. It made it out threw all the mud in two wheel drive to the main road and then my buddy's Zack & Mike were kind enough to swap out the CV for me. Justin at Offroad Outfitters was very kind to allow us to use his shop / lift to get it done. Yet another testament to how well the off-road community helps out it's fellow members. It was my first time meeting him!

My rear ARB will need to be fixed as will the rear diff. It is making sound when you let off the gas at speeds over 50mph. This is my next fix just as soon as my bank account will allow it. It won't be cheap. A 1" front diff drop from 4Crawler has been put in to reduce possible CV bind.

I know that some of you probably expected a build up thread, but since it was just not financially feasible at the time to build up, I bought one already built. For what I sold my truck for I was able to transition from a street truck to a capable rig. It just made financial since at the time. I know I will still learn quite a few new skills from wrenching on this 4Runner.
