I was just wondering what 6 cylinder diesel would have come in an 86-89 70 series p/u? Also does the 70 series p/u use the same front axle as fj60? If one of these trucks was already titled in Canada, could you bring it to the US?
THanks,
Carl

Carl the 85-89 HJ75 used the 6 cyl 2H diesel.
The FJ60 has a wider track ,not sure if its 20 or 40mm.
The 60 and 70 series share a lot of parts. The brakes, steering, electrical, drivetrain, cooling system are all virtually the same.

The 85-89 *75 also had a 3B. Either a BJ 75 or as noted HJ75 and from the ad 6 cyl diesel would be an HJ. The 70 series does not have the same axle as a 60 although just about all the parts are the same excpet teh axle shafts. The 70 series axle is a bit narrower than a 60 series and a tad wider than a 40 series. I've always wondered about a bj75 to the states. The 70 is importable and the 3b is on the list. I bet a bj or hj 75 could be imported fine although the *5 may raise an ebrow. Good luck

The seller says that he is certain that it can be registered in the US, and says that he has sold them to the US before. He has 3 that he said were used for research, and were brought up from Hondurez. They look like they have been really used. No major damage, but alot of scratches, and worn interiors. Apparantly the 86 has 116km on it, for 16,000 canadian. I may look at a bj 70 instead this weekend. There is one just over the border in BC (about an hour or so from me). What would be necessary to purchase a bj70 from BC?
Thanks,
Carl

Hi, this past may I imorted a BJ 70 states side from BC. It is no problem, just have to find a RI (registered importer) that is familiar with importing these to the states. I had to take mine to Winnipeg to a RI there to do the paper work and all. All fees and such I think cost me around $700. Then I had to drive back home to AK. All in all it took me about 5.5 days to do. If you need to find a RI, email Alex at woodmansee@ll.net and she can point you in the right direction. I think she lurks on this forum from time to time too:-) I had also thought about importing a BJ 75 from Germany since it has the 3B engine, but seems like alot of work and you would end up probably having to go through a ICI (indipendant commercial importer) which all adds up alot of money. If you check on SOR.com site the classifieds, there are BJ 70's on there for sale and some are in the US already.

i don't think 40 series axles are narrower than 75's... (might be a tad wrong)

Was the 75 a troopy or cab chassis?

Yep,according to birfield.com, the 40 has a front track of 1404mm
75 1415mm
60 1485 mm

Bad_religion_au is right. The pre 90 70 series front axle and the 40 series should have the same WMS to WMS width. Track widths may be affected by different wheel offsets. Different trim levels in the 70 series change track widths due to different wheels used.
