Anyone know how to remove the cigarette lighter socket from the dash trim panel without breaking the thing into a million pieces? I already have the electrical protion disconnected but it's still firmly attached to the panel. Need to get mine out so I can repair and repaint my trim panel. Thanks in advance.

You need to remove that part if the dash. The screws are all externally accessible. Don't forget the ones behind the ashtray.

IIRC, the back end of lighter receptacle has a well-disguised threaded sheetmetal nut around its diameter that captures it in the dash plastic. Unscrew that, and it will come loose, as will the metal garnish on the dash. Mine needed pliers to be persuaded.

If you need help visualizing it, look at replacement lighter sockets in any auto parts store. It's basically the same.
