Doing a clutch in my 350 v8 FJ60. Got it all out and the new clutch bolted up. Moving the tranny/t-case around and getting ready to put it in we notice something....

Somehow this rod got pushed down into the t-case. I suppose we were careless, first clutch I have done in a TLC. We spent nearly 2hrs trying to get it out. Using a wire and a variety of other things and it just won't come up. Really do not want to split the t-case. Thinking of drilling a small hole in the top of the rod and getting it pulled up that way.

Anyone had to deal with this!? Got any good tips on how to get this rod up without splitting the t-case!?

Clutch is in, ready to bolt up the tranny just need to get this friggin' rod back out of the t-case!

Man, that's a bummer! Can you rotate it? I think I saw somewhere a guy stalked about using a really powerful magnet. Good luck on that.

Why did you take the lever off the shifter?

We had to remove it to get it out, v8 meant not enough room to just drop it out with it on.

Tried magnets. Tried dental tool. Tried stiff wire for a long time. Got it to move a bit but now it is kind of stuck. It won't rotate or move at all now. Hoping somebody had a trick before we go and either drill it or split the t-case.

GOT IT!!

pressurized the t-case with air. moved the rod back and forth in the hole using a small screw driver and up it came! Time to put the tranny back in....

You get the Mcgyver award!!! Very cool fix.

yea no kidding. Some times creative solutions require creative fixes.

I once could not use a ladder to pull down data cable from 20 feet up in the air. So, used some duct tape on the end of my fish sticks, created a loop, and fed the end of the cable in it and twisted it and pulled down ;)

Nice job! That saves a lot of time and some $$
