I plan on finally getting around to using my truck for what I have been building it for - Camping and road trips- So I have made a sleeping pad today and this is what is the result.

I used to 3- 24X48 precut 1/2 inch plywood
a long 2x4 cut in half
scrap 12x48 plywood for the the seam -kinda a patch between the 2 pieces of wood
tie downs
scrap carpet
storage boxes
8 Heavy duty shelf brackets
96 inches of 1 inch alum bracket- cut in half

So far really sturdy and light- no movement - I plan on getting some turn buckles to attach to deck to stock cargo points.

Need to finish middle row section tomorrow

I don't plan on really loading this up beyond me in the back for the time being and wanted something to crash out on and keep my stuff in order as I go feral for a month or two-:D

not really hard to figure how I did it- simple and pretty light

can get a long under the bed box and 2 more square ones

left room on each side to get into panels and for my sub..

Could you flip it over and take a pic? Nice use of metal and thinner plywood. I will one day build a platform. Metal and thin plywood costs more than just 3/4 ply all around, but it looks a lot cleaner.

Cabinet grade 1/2" ply has a lot more layers in it than standard 1/2" lumber yard ply. It costs more, but is much stronger.

I've been thinking of some type of thin ply and metal channel/angle platform for awhile.

This also looks like you could easily remove it. Turnbuckles to the stock cargo points sounds like just the thing.

You don't plan on sleeping more than one back there? You know, chance favors the prepared & ladies love the cruiser.

Looks nice. I think these platforms are a great use of vertical space that is typically wasted. Who packs right up to the head liner?

Curious about your rear seat shoulder belts. I need some for my 88.

I'll get some pics up later but it is mostly finished-
Easy to remove- really light. I didn't want to over build it cause then gas mileage- about to drive 2000 miles. I don't plan on loading it up with heavy stuff, I'm 5'11 and can sit straight up in it. It's wide enough for 2 and can fit a surfboard etc. underneath.

Pretty stoked, I've wanted tom build this for a while.

I'll write up about the seat belts soon on for ROTM.

Kudos for a great minimalist build, I've seen way to many of these that are massively overbuilt.

Using shelf bracket was a brilliant idea.

nice build!

when you put the seats down, what will you put on the seat back to make the full sleeping surface level?

Lightweight is definitely the way to go!

NO joke! I can't count the number of times that I pulled my old platform out of the truck to haul something inside (BTW, a 50" plasma fits PERFECTLY inside a 60 standing up in the box). My old platform was MDF, so it was pretty heavy. I'm going to start on a new build soon, since my last platform was reduced to scrap helping a contractor haul bags of concrete on it.

Good idea here, surffj62

more pics- worked well with me sleeping in it- when the middle seat is folded down it brings to about a inch or so with the seat bottom that it is flipped up. the two seperate sections are joined with 4 screws (2 each side) through the hole that are already in the brackets. To make it happen I took it out, flipped it upside down bolted them together them mounted the shelf hangers to the wood.
