rather than hijack another thread:

in comparing two different smog diagrams (see below, 1-schematic diagram from the emissions manual, 2-parts diagram) I am confused as to how one of the vcv is plumbed.

specific questions:
1) have I correctly labeled the ports in both diagrams?

2) if they are labeled correctly, are ports x and z plumbed differently in both diagrams? in 1, x and z runs to the air cleaner and in 2, x and z runs to the dizzy cap.

3) which routing is correct?

4) does this make any sense?

any insight would greatly appreciated.

I've ran into this before, the top one is misleading because X and Z ports are not on the same side of the valve as shown in the first schematic. Follow the second and you can't go wrong.

Perhaps I need to re-route my hoses, and in thinking about it, if port y functions to draw in air, it makes sense that y is routed to the air cleaner as opposed to the top of the dizzy. thanks

Yeah, I would reroute the hoses if they're wrong. :)

Go by the schematic in the Emissions Manual and by the vacuum routing diagram sticker that should be mounted on your passenger side wheel well inside the engine bay.

IIRC, and as you've probably already discovered, the ports are labeled on the component itself if you look closely. Don't know if this of any help with your situation, but I found it useful in clarifying what goes where once I discovered it.

thanks for the info, I completely forgot about the schematic on the wheel well (which, go figure, is quite helpful), which indicates x and z go to the dizzy cap and y to the air cleaner.

This might too late but here is a pic. PAFJ put a schematic up on the other thread. I ran this today, using that. I used the colored hose to track where I replaced and keep 6mm hose visually differentiated from the 3mm.

thanks, I think...
your port y hose appears routed incorrectly (of course this could be the blind leading the blind). Shouldn't a hose that t's off the pcv hose connect to the HIC valve and not the port y hose, which runs directly to the air-cleaner and not through the hic valve?

Phila- You're hooked up wrong. Let's see, the hose coming out the top of the VCV (blue hose) should go up to your air filter housing. The orange hose, which I believe is coming out of x should connect to the "T" fitting and z then route to the dizzy cap. It looks like there is a thick black hose going into the "T" now (where's this coming from?), and where is the orange hose going? There should be a hose that T's into your PCV line that connects to the HIC valve where the blue hose is now. Does this make sense?

HTH-

pafj- do you have any idea what this vcv does? vacuum from the intake manfold causes air to be drawn from the air cleaner and into the dizzy cap? or do I have this backwards?

I'm hijacking here, but didn't want to start another thread. The black hose, actually bypasses the T, and the orange (X)coming from VCV is plugged in there. From this drawing, it shows the line coming out of the top, but doesn't show where it goes. I assumed that it went to HIC. I should look for an opening in the air filter housing, but what goes to the HIC? Thanks again. I reread your post, and saw you already mentioned what goes to HIC. I'll look for the PCV line next time I'm at the garage with my manual.

I'll take some pictures of my set-up later.
