I was not paying attention at NAPA today and brought home an SKF pilot bearing made in Argentina; part number 6202-2ZJ. My first problem is that it will not fit over the input shaft of my three speed transmission. I can probably fix this by giving the shaft a bit of a rub-down. My other concern is that I don't know any thing about this manufacturer. Would you run it?

The parts guy at NAPA said that he could supply me with either a pilot bearing or a pilot bushing. Does anybody use pilot bushings on LCs?

SKF is good stuff. Made in Germany mostly. We buy thousands of dollars worth of their bearings every year where I work (we build crushing machines).

In short, polish the input shaft and run it. Probably some dirt or a burr on the nose of the shaft.

Thanks. When I searched on the web, there were lots of SKF people wondering if it was OK to run Koyo! I guess I have the Japanese fixation. I will run it. There was good stuff on Mud from Poser about getting the input shaft cleaned up.
