What axle ratio is a '79 FJ40 (1 Viewer)

I know they changed somewhere in there. Is it difficult to change?

A '79 FJ40 would have 3.73 gears - they switched in that year until the end of production from the earlier 4.11's. Not that hard of swap IMO - can swap the entire 3rd or just ring and pinion w/ any later fine-spline.

if you take the rear cover off the ratio should be stamped on the ring gear.ihave owned 14 or so 79s and only 2 had the 373s in them.i only counted them as 79s that had the tanks underneath.dont know if it made a difference on the east coast or not.
