shop floor

Just took over some shed space (10x12) and am putting in a welding table but want to throw something on the wood floor in a 6x6area under and near the table to catch hot gunk that flies around and to not catch the place on fire. Any recommendations other than tiles to throw on the floor?

you could screw down some tile backer board like Durarock. It's concrete so it should give you some protection.

reffug is an unknown quantity at this point
tiles are probably going to be most cost effective..

I'm gonna say that a 6x6 area would be inadequate. Cover the whole floor, or don't bother. My $0.02

Think 3-dimensional when you are planning for welding protection. You'll need to look at anything a spark can grab onto - wood ledges, corners, etc. Will you be grinding in there as well?

You might look at an 1/8" piece (possibly thicker) of steel you could put on the floor.
