Tire Patch Kits

Ive have a slow leak in a tire, and Tire Kingdom just told me they cant patch it because the hole is too close the sidewall. I have ~50% tread left dont want to spend the money on a new tire if I don't have to. Does anyone have any experience with the self patching kits in which you pump some kind of goo in the tire? Thanks in advance.

The goo is meant as a temporary fix, just to get you to where you can put your spare on or patch/replace the tire.

Not sure where you hole actually is, but I've had great luck using tire plugs to fill some pretty big holes.

Just a thought.

I've had good luck salvaging tires with sidewall holes by sticking in a big truck tire patch and then putting in a radial tire tube. The tubes usually had to be ordered. I had a new BFG ATR that took a .22 round in the sidewall. I put 40K miles on it after that.
Tubes used to be standard equipment on Cruisers. A spare tube can come in handy.

I have only used this stuff once, SAFETY SEAL, here at this link

Off Road 4x4 Kit

but I purchased it after doing some research into the different products available at the time. (2004 maybe) There may be something better now but I went with this and it works. The particular reason was the fact that it was SELF VULCANIZING and it appeard to be tested and proven with patents in place. (ARB was selling it at the time as wll, I think they have their own now, either a copy or something under license)

THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD PUT A TUBE IN A TYRE IF I COULD HELP IT.

Yes sometimes if you can't carry a spare casing and you carry a tube , then fit the tyre patch and then put a tube in it for a VERY TEMPORARY REPAIR.
My thoughts only!

heck i just plugged a hole in the sidewall of one of our hummers ( it took 4 or five plugs) just to see how long it is gonna last, it is a beater we drive here on base and it has lasted about 2 months now. I would try a plug, and the kit i used was safety seals .
cheers
