Plywood painting q's
I'm wrapping up a little cargo box project and have constructed the box with birch plywood. I'll be painting this soon and would like some suggestions on what type of primer, if any, would be best. I also want to use a non-skid type paint on the top surface, any suggestions on that?

'Killz' is the best primer I've found that can be had damn near anywhere. You can either use the original which is alcohol based and dries fast (but stinks) or the water-based formula. Dunn-Edwards sells good primer, and I'm sure Frazee and Sherman-Williams have something comparable.

I'd agree with spike that kilz works well. I'd definitely get the water based....much easier to clean up. If you don't really care about the smell or the clean-up phase...go with oil-based.

I've wondered how that epoxy garage floor paint would hold up for a cargo box.

Probably don't care if the plywood looks like painted plywood, but here is something that movie company prop builders do to hide the plywood look when painting. Put down a really thin panel adhesive, cover with a bed sheet, roll out any bubbles with a cheep rolling pin, then paint with primer and finish. Really fine finish without plywood inperfections showing through.

Picked up some Kilz but haven't had time to put it to use. Also found a sprayable rubber coating for the top. I think this was a Permatex product but don't remember for sure, I need to take a look at the can.
