cheap push lawnmower question
my cheap push lawnmower is running crappy...
when you start it the engine goes..... VROOM VROOM vroom vroom VROOM VROOM vroom vroom VROOM VROOM..... it's annoying. My guess is the two springs on the carb are stretched or misaligned. This mower is an ON/OFF mover. No choke or throttle options.

Come to MI and I will give you a deal on my 3 yo Honda push mower. I moved to a bigger yard in Sept., bought a used JD and don't use it.

It sounds like you governor spring is tweaked or that it is running lean causing it to surge.
Lean running conditions could be because of debris in the fuel tank. The debris will partially block the pick up tube it is starveing of fuel.
Or you bent the crap out of your govenor spring trying to make it go faster.
Or it need the mixture screw backed out a bit.

I bet it's the governor spring, whatever that is. Every time I cram it into the bushes while mowing, it almost cuts off. Pull the mower out of the bushes and it revs back up. There are two springs that basically sit on top of each other, these are the ones that are affected by the bushes "pushing" on them.
can i buy these anywhere? and are they all the same?

What engine?
Briggs and Stratton? Tecumseh? Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, Lawn boy?
Take you model, type and code off of you engine and go to the dealership and get the corrct spring(s). They are not all the same

I think it's a B&S... it is a 2005 base model cheap-o $99 mower from Wal-Mart.
edit:
it looks like this.

Mine stuff, espeicially the pressure washer has done that occasionally. It mostly happens after the stuff has sat for a while. The gasoline forms a varnish and gunks up the jets. Spray witn car cleaner, run a gasoline additive, and if that don't work, you may have to take the carb apart and clean it.

I just threw out a mower because it was doing that... some self throttle B&S.... the carb was a joke on that thing.... it was a wallmart purchase years ago....
Personally I throw it to the curb and source a good lawnboy!

You can put a throttle cable on it.
Model is a 90902 not 9D902.
Measure the length from the carb to where you want to mount the handle. Run to walmart or an ACE store, etc and buy a throttle cable assy. Mount it to the handle where ever you want it. Don't worry about connecting it to the carburetor. Your carburetor is govenred to run WOT so putting a throttle cable on it will be a total loss of time and money.
If you do install one, all you will bale to do is idle it down your lawn mower.

You will need you model, type and serial # to get the correct spring at a deaelrship.
Don't bend the heck out of it when you try to install it.
