powder coating
I know alstaz and sisukid have been on this powder coating thing.
I just found a guy in Delavan who does custom work for cheap in my book. He quoted me $350-450 for my fj frame.
I will be going there this am as the owner invited me to have a tour(since we are both in the biz sort of). This guy does not do production work, only custom.
I think a few of you have my # so if I don't get on here by this aft. call me.

back from the tour
I just came back from a full tour of the facility.
Place was a dive, but they do excellent work.
I saw everything from ornamental fencing to exhaust headers done in chrome.
I gave him my seat brackets from the 75 (8) in all i think, his price is $65.00 . They cook the grease off then blast em with aluminum oxided, and can paint them whatever, in this case gloss black.
These guys are set up to do custom work, whereas I am set up to do semis, boats etc.
I am also going to bring him my frame, axles, and whatever else I can as my progress increases.
I don't view this place as competition in any way shape or form. I am just thrilled I found a place.
I will be getting my brackets back in 2 weeks, he also quoted my white rims at $60 per rim, which is a great price. Any questions ask alstaz or sisukid for my #.
He sends out the frame to waukesha to get them acid dipped, about $350 he says, then he blasts and powder coats them for $350-450. Axles I am not sure.
They also had 5 hot rod bodies, on racks they were blasting with plastic , so it seems to me that this place was set up for people like ih8mudders.
The name of the company is motor sport powder coating , located 7 min. from my front door. There # is 1-262-740-2030. The owners name is Tim.

He's got an oven long enough for a 60 frame? (About 16.5 feet) I'm pretty sure the 60 frame is a good bit longer than a 40 frame....
How does he get inside to the boxed sections of the frame? Just shoot it in there at high pressure and hopes it sticks?
That's what I'm worried about -- after spending all this money on a new frame that it'll wind up looking like the old one that rusted from the inside out.
That's part of the reason I was thinking galvanization-- that way when it's dipped the molten zink penetrates all those areas that you can't get a gun on.
Anyway, sounds pretty good -- thanks for the info. Now I just gotta get my frame a ride to Delavan if his oven is big enough. (Sucks not having a vehicle that can tow. )

fj60 frame
Hey sisukid.
I would recommend a tour. From what I could tell, You could drive quite a big vehicle in the ovens. I didn't ask him about the boxed areas.
I also saw some chrome things going on there.....
He told me he would have to get my fj40 frame acid dipped before coating , for $350, is that a good deal or not?
And I am still waiting for you and alstaz to come see the monstrosity at my shop.....

Thanks for the info.
Maybe next weekend I can pop by and check out your shop. My wife and I like that Chinese place in downtown Delavan, so maybe I'll take her out there as an excuse.
Weekends find me busy. I'm getting into the nitty gritty of the body work on my land cruiser. Ask woody, he's seen what a nightmare the thing is -- though it's improved since he saw it a few weeks ago.
the engine, suspension, axles and trans/transfer case will be here in august, so I'll definitley be looking to get the frame dealt with by then.
Fred

shop
I haven't been on here in weeks. Very busy family life, and we are swamped at work.
I still would not mind you and alstaz to come by. From what I saw on Alstaz website, he looks like someone I need to meet and he can point me in the right direction.
I will be picking up my seat brackets tomorrow. I went in today, and because of the weather, they flash rusted, so they have to reblast, then powder coat.
The owner Tim said he would give group tours to car clubs or whatever, or he would come and speak at a rally or whatever, no charge.
Seemed like a nice guy, so if anyone is interested ttt.

As soon as I snap a pic I will post. Got a business card from him today, here is the website-www.motorsport-coating.
Any questions , some have my #, of course that is redundant. Ya just checked the link, does not work. Oh well call Tim the owner........

Hey Webelk - did you ever get your frame dipped and coated? Just curious as I'm stripping my '72 now and thinking about coating options.

Black Angus-
I ended up doing my frame myself as I was set up to blast and paint myself. I believe it is on my build up thread that I have not udated in a long time.
I did however have alot of other stuff done their. i.e. my header ceramic coated(very nice) my tie rods, I know I am forgetting something. But like I said, It has been awhile. I would not hesitate getting my frame done at motor sport. I did however do my own and am very satisfied.
Now if I could just finish......

That chinease place you speak of burned down 1-3 months ago. My guess is a "remodeling fire".....

Well the chassis turned out ok, I'll post some pics soon. $ was right, he wasn't happy with how it turned out and knocked another $50 off the price.

Talk to the fabricator, think it was supposed to be brighter. I know it was a cheap powder too.

I think that looks awesome. Imagine blasting and painting that yourself , with all of those angles . Then making sure you have no holidays(misses). And making sure everything has a proper mill thickness...
