Heading to McCaslin

Moved to WI 4 years ago, and I have never been offroad in this state... Boy that sounds just wierd since I have been to CO 3 times with my FJ Cruiser in the last 3 years. Seems like with my job and my sons' sports, I never take time for fun around here. I guess it would help to join an active club...again that time thing... Anything I should know about before driving the 4 hours to get to McCaslin from Portage? I'm planning on trying out my new Outlander Sherpa with roof top tent and taking my 3 little ones for some time around a camp fire and make sure they are prepped for our trip out west in July.

Stop at the office and register with Pat, Edith or whoever is working. Have a great time. I'll be in Mole Lake working on the trails there.

Thanks Hank, will do. Anything I must experience while there? Driving up tomorrow night and then wheeling Saturday/Sunday morning. Probably will look at doing a Pipeline run on my way out.

If you are wheeling alone just take it easy and enjoy it. You might enjoy getting up to the look out for a picnic or something. There is a little of everything back there, mud, rocks, hills and two track. Be sure to keep off private property.

Where have you taken it?

Boy did I pick a great weekend to go camping with the greenhorns. Been raining here all afternoon and they were a bit scared of trail riding. So much for sitting around the camp fire eating smores. GREAT WEATHER! We did have a great snack break at Lookout before this rain set in. Boys thought that was pretty cool.

We got wet also. It started about 2pm and we were off the trail by 4:30 in Mole Lake. I guess 9er and W4WDA did a pipeline cleanup. Did you see any of them?

thread hi-jack here...

Is the Mole Lake trail open to F.I.B.s that hang all too often in Wabeno? How do I find my way there and how difficult is it?

Just curious...

Goebs

Mole Lake is a closed trail system. PM details if you wish. We would love to have you.

Not trying to be confusing here, but changed my user name to what I have been using for years. I finally figured out I could not change my name, so had to set up a new user... Woody, still think you should charge for this service.

We went back up on some trails at McCaslin Sunday morning to test out my trailer with my new pintle hitch. I bought the trailer without the hitch and I wanted to make sure prior to heading out to CO next month the thing would trailer nicely on trail.
Wow was it wet and so were we. Sleeping bags were damp and we had to break camp in the mist so EVERYTHING was a wet pack. We decided against the Pipeline run and opted to get home via a McDonalds in Appleton for lunch.
Boys had a blast and we certainly had a "character builder".
