60/62 Quarter Panel Storage Hatches
I have been working on prototyping the 1/4 panel storage and I finally have a little bit of something to show for it.
I will be up and running with these soon
Each set will need to be a custom unit, I will be asking for photos of your 1/4s when your name comes up.
Some things that need to be planned around:
Rear washer bag? (no longer a concern with new design)
Relocate (or not) evap tubes?
Vinyl wheel well trim?
Rear shoulder belts?
Rear speakers?
Here is how the list looks at the moment. The same basic principle as the tailgate list applies.
-EDIT- 12.22.08
I am restructuring the way I attack this list. The system was not working very well, so instead of following chronological order, it is now a bit more of a free-for-all based on the order in which people send me their pics.
So, if you are still considering a set of side panels, send me along a photo of your current panels, in the truck is fine, crappy phone pics are fine, all I need to see is the general outline.
For a bunch more information and current pics, check out the side panel page on my site.

I’m already on the list for the tailgate storage for my 60. (Hopefully, near the top! ) Can I order quarter panel storage hatches when my name comes up for the tailgate storage hatch, or do I need to get on a separate list for those?

Well, looking at the “lists” yesterday, if I quit my job and worked on this stuff full time I have enough of a backlog to keep me busy for at least 4 months.
I know that I want to make a few more design changes, you see how you can see air around the panel? If the lower 1/4 panels are not sealed up, a lot of dust can get thrown up into them. On my truck this was not a concern because I know they are sealed, but I would rather not have my panels spewing dust into peoples trucks, so that needs a bit of attention.
The ones pictured are for a striped down truck with no trim, rear shoulder belts, speakers, vapor holder, washer bag or wheel well trim. For simplicities sake I made them just like mine.
So I don't really know, you are close to the top though and since these can be made alongside the tailgates (they dont take the same jigs) I'll bet we can get you a set next month. (along with one or two others, I will get a list and another thread going soon for those)

Prototype tester has already been arranged.
You're not very far down the list though.

The fluid washer will just be a $5 add on option, all it needs is two hooks welded to the top rail and away you go (makes shipping weirder though). The tool and jack brackets need to be removed, but you gain much more storage.
On the other side I suggest relocating the evaporator to the back corner, I can make a simple bracket to mount it in the OE spot, but it is smack dab in the middle of the useful storage in that location.
Keep in mind though that these are basically like building two tailgate lids that use the materials less efficiently. $$$$

Gotcha down!
I am am still working on the cost, each set will have to be a custom unit, some requiring more time/parts than others. Because of that, I am not going to post a price yet, especially not before I get the first few out.
At this point though, despite being like making two tailgates, I think I can keep the cost below $400.

Given the innovative nature and CLEAN look of the tailgate and quarter hatches, and the work you've put into them, I don't think anyone is going to complain about the cost. I think we're all really happy you are offering them!!
BTW, could you at a "k" to my username on the list. I would hate for one letter to stand in the way when it comes time to contact me.
Thanks,
Curtis.

 Got it.
(checked the tailgate list as well)
The "advanced search" does a good job with partial usernames.

i think at that price it is still considered an excellent deal, knowing the quality work that you do.it's only fair that you get paid for the work that you put into this things.

Getting rid of my Rubbermaid bin that slides around in back is priceless. Love the tailgate, and from what I've seen, I'm just as impressed with the 1/4s.
Keep up the good work.

Kevin, please add me to the 1/4 panel list too, please.
Damn, I'm going to have to get a job before Kevin comes out with any more awesome designs. Like the front seat bins, for instance. My front floorboards are perfectly fine but I think cutting the floor for the seat bins may just be a possibility!

I think they will have to be tailored to a few things in each truck. Presence or lack of rear seatbelts, if the speakers in stock location are wanted, rear washer bag, perhaps gas tank fill stuff depending on gas or diesel, keeping in stock place, or relocating some of the "peripheral" tubing,.......

What do you all think about putting a small 12v fan in the quater panel storage area that is directed up through louvers cut in the storage door and toward the back window to help with defrost (since all but 2 of my defrost strips are shot)?

I would think that replacing the rear window would be more effective?
There is a great thread in the 60 section right now on how easy it is to replace.

I just replaces my thermostat, gasket and o-ring. Defrosting the entire rig now is no problem
Though, I would still like to have working defrost strips.

More progress, FINALLY! These things are dragging, but this is the first official set, still a few little tweaks to be made but I am getting there.
Couple a pics: The second and third show how I made a lip for some foam weatherstrip. The lid now pushes against the foam all the way around the opening and is fully sealed, no dust will be getting in the cabin.

Here is a shot with the flash to show the foam from the back. And a couple of shots with the hardware, 'cause I like hardware.
