Tailgate Storage Box “For Sale Thread”
Details of the product and all the fun tech stuff
(please make sure you scroll down, it has come a long way since the thread started, the current rough version can be seen at the bottom of the first page and some of the production units can be seen a few pages in)
Installation instructions
What everyone has been waiting for: price, $275 with a now standard plastic lid.
Shipping is now a flat rate of $30 within the lower 48
Plywood lids are still available (for the weight conscience).
And the infamous list that every one has been wondering about :
(This list consists of UNCONFIRMED buyers. These are the people who merely expressed interest in the sale in chronological order. If your name is on here mistakenly, let me know and it will be removed. I apologize for any misspelled usernames.)
Folks will have three options when their name comes up on the list.
The first will obviously be to send payment and take the available unit.
Second will be to pass, if you pass you can get back on the list at the bottom.
The third will to be on hold. Since I can not offer these for sale as an inventory item I can not expect the timing to be right for everyone when their name comes up. If that is the case you can be put "on hold" for a short period of time and PM me when you are ready to get back into line.
Payment can be sent as a personal check, money order, cashiers check or through PayPal.

Details of the sale:
I do not want to take advance payment. The next name on the list will get first right of refusal for each unit.
1/4 panel sales will be dealt with separately. After the first 10 tailgates are made I will make a prototype set of 1/4s and determine their price.
The first unit is up for grabs, does not include tailgate installation hardware included, tools are not, anybody who wants help cutting a hole in their tailgate is welcome to swing by.

You're not as low on the list as you think, look again
Remember, I marked people down even if they merely expressed interest.
And if I did miss anyone else, let me know.

Check out page 4 of the tech thread, lots of pics there, and a detail of the whole project.

So it comes with the frame and the door as seen in the pics or is the interior "box" included?

I will be waiting patiently for my name to pop up. But I will also be checking this thread every four minutes to make sure I don't miss out ;-).

The tech thread chronicles the evolution of my personal design, it has gone through a lot of changes over the last year.
If you look at page four, the photographs show the current design, the rest of the thread shows and explains how I got there.
So, no "box" anymore, I found it to be too impractical for a variety of reasons. A great deal more usable space is gained by having access to the entire inside of the tailgate. I do suggest covering the interior of the tailgate with some reflective sound deadener to brighten it up and keep things clean.

For all the people asking, PMing and emailing about an 80 series model, I do plan to pursue that route but still need to find and dismantle an 80 series tailgate to see if it is feasible.
First things first, need to get these orders taken care of, but I am trying to procure a junk 80 tailgate to play with.
Now settle down and wait your turn!

The list should be all up to date.
I am getting set for a big run of boxes next weekend, this weekend unfortunately did not work out since my laser cutter had a machine down.

Very sweet product, really enjoyed the thread about how it evolved. Please put me down for one for an 80, once you have developed one, thanks.
