I think that if you are going to secure the hatches, your best bet is to go with barrel locks of some sort.
Tuffy sells them to go along with their various products, they are affordable ($10 each?) and keyed-alike.
I imagine you can find a source that can enable you to sell them at a similarly cheap price, and the keyed-alike feature would matter a lot to me: I don't want a key for the ignition, a key for the center, another key for the tailgate, then a key each for the sides, along with all the other keys I tote. Less is more.
Or, maybe you could take a look at the way they build job-boxes on construction. Those usually have a padlock incorporated such that the keyhole is visible, but the rest of the padlock is inside the box. Do that with a combo lock and you are golden. Master makes good, brass, padlocks with a 4-digit resettable combo. That would be a great solution- eliminates keys altogether.
Great work, by the way. What is the total weight of the 80 version? I'm thinking maybe it can go into a boardbag sometime on my way back from the states. Maybe.

Riiiiiiight. I'm hoping it will get better with a shop specifically for it though.
sandcruiser, I like the job box vernacular, that's a good way to look at the problem, I'll give it some thought. Paddocks.......
I can not remember what the 80 lid weighs off the top of my head, but it was 18 or 19lbs.

I would say only till you put in the hatches. The surrounds for them are very beefy, and I would think strength is actually improved.

Kevin sent you a pm about switching from Side panels to Rear hatch- Let me know when you receive it- also ordered a set of door rubber. One more thing (as if you dont have enough) did you ever find a reliable source for rear window rubber for dechroming? I need to get some from you if possible.
As always thanks for all you do, my family thanks you everytime we ride in the 60 due to rear weatherstripping eliminating the exhaust fumes from coming into the cab.

Thanks Adam, that pretty much sums it up.

Wait list question is answered, no payment accepted ahead of time. And I make them as fast as I can! Other than moving shop, things are flowing along nicely and I think the wait is only at a few months for new orders, hard to tell though.

PM or email? I got the email (we're all sorted out now right?) but not a PM. I've got a line on the welt strips, but haven't gotten anything in the mail, I'll follow up on that. Thanks for the reminder, that had been pushed to the back of my head lately.

Did we sort this out via email? The vertical metal is structural, but that (as RockDoc stated) is why the panels are so heavy. The vertical ribs are quite weak, and once bent in by cargo in the truck they loose almost all structural integrity. I am trying to correct that with my frames in the same way as the caved in tailgates.
For everyone waiting to see their names on the various lists, I have them all on paper, but getting parts made has been more of a priority than getting names posted.
Joey, fixed the link, thanks for the heads up.

Kevin do you still have any of the three prototypes for the 80 series left? If so, shoot me a p.m.
thanks.

PM sent, everyone should be set, other than canadianmedic who is still waiting for an international shipping quote and Adam who's door seals have not arrived yet, or Rami, who's name is still not on the 80 list, or all the folks still waiting patiently for their tailgate lids.........
Back to work.

Insulation
Well, I am searching the threads looking for ideas on how to improve my insulation (reduce the sound) in my FJ60 and come across this thread that seems to have gone on forever. Wow, what an idea and an evolution of a great idea. Please add me to the list for the tail gate storage unit for an FJ60.
Thanks

Yeah, subscriptions are the only way I can keep track of these threads.
Big weekend this time, Wagongear is pretty much back up and running! Made the first tailgate lid since September.
There are still things to do with the house and the garage, but everything is basically working (including the kitchen, not just the welder).
Here are a couple photos to prove that I have actually been up to something, a before and after garage shot, and that is a tailgate lid on the workbench.

Ahhh! Too many lists!
Ok, what I think is happening is that you are looking in the tailgate list here on Mud (this thread), and the side panel list on my website.
I just went through and checked the lists and I have you down on both the Mud and web side panel lists.
Your father in-law is on both the tailgate list (Mud and Web) and the side panel lists (Mud and Web). Did you want to be on the tailgate list? I do not have you down for one anywhere.
But, where do you see soundstudio315????
I don't think I have that down anywhere. That one I am confused about.

My bad I made this more confussing that it needed to be. Yeah it's under my name on the website, not my email you are correct. My inlaw's under is under his email so it got it crossed in my brain when I typed it out.
Ok, so I'm on side panel and yes can I be included in the tailgate list? If it can be made on the same order that would be great but I understand whatever's fair, I didn't realize there were two lists going on
Again sorry for all the confussion.
Sam

This is badass. I've always thought doing something like this would be cool and effective, but I have little to no skill or talent to try and pull it off.
Any thought to doing side panels for an 80?

Thanks guys.
I have "thoughts" about 80 series side panels, but they are still just in the thought phase. I examined a striped out 80 and once all the extra plastic is removed, the cargo area is surprisingly similar to the 60s. I think side panels could work quite well, but would provide a much more utilitarian cargo area.
Still looking into it.
