Do the plastic sheets come in tan or brown color? Most 80 series have oak/brown/tan interior and the tailgate box would replace the carpet on the tailgate. Tan/oak/brown color would be a match the interior color.
Any plans for putting in a lock on the tailgate box? It would be great to have a lock as an option since there are so few lockable storages in the wagon.
Do you have any plans for the side panel boxes for the 80 series? If you do, I'd love to be on the list for a pair. The 80 series side panels do not have the 3 vertical supports to cutoff like the 60, so it is perfect for a storage box.
Thanks!

24HOURSOFNEVADA,
gotcha down.
97 FZJ80,
I might be able to get the HDPE in brown, thanks for the heads up on that.
Picked up a batch of parts from the laser cutter yesterday and a metal 80 tailgate panel was in there.
I do actually have a lockable latch option, they are better latches, 1/4 turn compression, stainless steel, and lockable. The only problem is that it is a $100 upgrade in pure cost, my labor does not change since they use the same mount locations, the hardware is just much more expensive.
I have plans for 80 panels in the back of my head, way back.
I've studied a striped 80 body shell and a fully trimmed one, the 80 actually has a great deal of potential if one was willing to strip the cargo compartment of all that curvy plastic crap. I could very easily adapt the side panels to the 80 body, but the plastic parts provide quite a challenge.
I just need to pick up a cheap 80 to play with.

Kevin R.

I would definitely be interested in the side panel boxes. My only request is that it will work with the third row seats, both in the up and down position.

Coil Sprunged, factory locked, and also doubles as a minivan with 8 seats. What's not to like?

I could fix all those problems.
Anyway, I should just get one to play with in general.

Do these lockable latches interchange with the "standard" ones such that you could chose which single hatch to make lockable after receiving a full set of tailgate and quarter hatches?

OK, I'm officially interested for an 80 series unit. Preferably in a brown color to match my interior. I know us 80 guys.....
Do you have a pic of an installed 80 series box? I didn't see one anywhere in the thread.

Hmmm. I am thinking about retaining the use of the panel that currently sits on the tailgate now. And using it to disguise the box location. BUT, that being said...brown would be ideal just in case.
KEVIN, any word?

Nope, nutin.
This last month was a crapy one with the real job, not much progress made.
There is no thread for the 80 lids yet, no pics of one installed, not even any of one finished! There are a couple boring progress pics on my website but they just show the cardboard templates (there is also the beginning of the 80 list on there as well).
I've got the profile right, got the a test one cut and back from the laser cutter, got the metal to weld to it, got all the hardware.....
Just need to get it all welded up.
Getting close the the end of the 60 List, been pushing hard to get those wrapped up (gota get them out the door before all the 60s rust away!)Oh, and my plastics supplier doesn't have brown plastic, but they are checking to see if they can get it.
That is about all I have for the 80 folks, you'll just have to wait your turn.

I'd like to add my name to the lsit for a tailgate storage panel. I'm already on the list for the quarter panels.
Thanks - Brian

Hey man-
Well you must think I'm a flake, but, I have a good reason for not getting back to you about buying the tailgate storage compartment for two months: I am in the navy and just got back from deployment. I left at the end of January and this is the first time I had internet access again to log onto mud. I'm sure by now I'm out of the line and someone is waiting expecting to be next, so I guess just put me back in the end of the line again and I'll wait. Sorry about wasting your time and effort, but that's the life I live in the military.

I worked on putting the plastic in one of the two 80 prototypes last night, the curve of the template wasn't quite right though, it's always something.
I have a new profile being cut right now and once that is back here and welded together it should be the final!
I was hoping to post pics of a finished prototype last night, but now it will be a few more days.

Yes!!! So its on the horizon! Doing a 3 week expedition in and around Yellowstone at the end of August and hoping to hand you money and get installed before then.
I can send if it helps lubricate the fabrication muscles

Thanks for the support guys.
But we should be set, I've got a handful of people who have been slow at getting back to me and spots in line are flexible anyway, I contact a few people at a time and sometimes the last one contacted is the first to get back at me, so things get shuffled around. v8tuff will get his lid.
As a side note for the loyal thread followers, I will be posting a "factory seconds" thread soon for a few prototype and test lids (original side panel set as well) that would like to find a home.

You may have to take a bastard child if you want an 80 lid by August!
You're 14 down on the list, I will be through the current 60 list by then, but I don't think I will be that far into the 80s by a long shot.
I'll have two 80 prototypes to sell, first dibs go to Tucker, but I don't know if he will want a proto version. (there are only very minor differences between the production and proto versions though)

Just HOW minor are the differences? I would still be interested in the "collector's edition" regardless. I definitely don't want to bump someone. I was just hopeful.

We'll see how it plays out. They are close enough that if they were set next to each other you wouldn't be able to see the differences right away.
