Any update on getting an 80 tailgate to work on? I will see if I can find one here in Hong Kong...but the shipping may be a bit high...

Actually I have a very good line on an 80 tailgate. Things look good for that.
My laser cutter contacted me yesterday to let me know that my set of trial 6* series 1/4 panels was ready to pick up. So that is moving along as well.
And I have been slowly working down the list of 6* tailgates and making another batch to keep moving on those.
So far (with being very busy at work and in life at the moment) I have been shipping out tailgate lids at the rate of about 2 a week, which I am trying to improve.
I think I really need to set up a website, with all the information in one place and simplified ordering.
Thanks for the interest.
I will start a thread for 1/4s, and another one for 80s lids soon.

Go ahead and add me to the list for 1/4's....not that I really need it....but then again I don't NEED Scotch or cigars either but.....

Ohhh, you are so close!
If a couple folks don't pipe up soon I will have to keep moving down the list, keep your fingers crossed.

Not to worry, "Hold" alows you to jump back in near the top of the list, not for any units that are already spoken for though.

Only 17 more in front of you Steve.
Don't you need a driveable cruiser to put it in anyway?
(Pops made me write that)
mep1811, gotcha down for both. You've been on the tailgate list for awhile, so look up from the bottom of the list a bit.

Update moved over from the chit-chat in Tech thread:

And, I have been getting parts made for variations of the 1/4s. They are much more custom that the tailgates. So far I have had to design around the presence or lack of:
Rear seat belts
Speakers
Washer bag
Vinyl wheel well trim
Cable opening gas door
Expansion chamber
Interior plastic trim (I think I've got it to work with either in this case)
Most of these things change the outer profile, but between the 60 and 62 the entire door assembly has to change to accommodate the seat belts.
So I have been making progress on that front, but the holiday season combined with getting our truck all spiffed up for a road trip on the 1st has slowed things up quite a bit. (that part is selfish, I know )
I have also been trying to make a website to put all this info on, that way I can have a Mud banner add that will actually link to something. This whole thing is getting kinda serious, and I don't want to be a forum free-loader.

Not to worry fellas, both of yours are being made (OCHO4I, you're just squeaking in on this run though )
I am running into complications with the plastic lids, so as long as you are ok with the coated plywood I should be shipping this month, if you want plastic it might be next month.
I am out of town at the moment (out of the country actually) but will be back in the shop soon!
Oh, and a 100 lid? huh, never even seen a 100 tailgate. I will look at it, but it is important to take care of these 60s before they rust out.

Back in the shop! Big weekend planned.
Glad you guys are on board with the ply (cabinet grade, veneer core, birch[and not that Chinese birch/Obechee crap] no osb or fiberboard here)
I am concerned with the durability of the coated ply, it can always be re-coated, but it does wear. The plastic can be a down-the-line upgrade if folks want.
And not to worry, I'm working on the 80 tailgate.

put me down for one for the 80 when you get there.
and put me down for a set of 80 quarter panel hatches when you get there.
also, have you considered putting a small sink with a lid on one side of the tailgate?

Yours is getting the lid attached tonight, and the first coat of finish. Planning to make a FedEx trip by the end of the week.

Teaser pic for the loyal thread followers.
And not to worry, there are 3 more tailgate lids in various stages of completion on the desk next to these.

Beautiful!! I’m ready for this upgrade. I’m in the middle of exterior painting and carpet, seats and recovering door panels. I have been holding off on recovering the quarter panels … waiting for Kevin!
I know I'm on the list, but can you tease us with a rough time frame???
Thanks,
