Just as soon as Kevin figures out a way to switch out #14 with #13 without #13 noticing it

At the speed I've been going, sometime in 2012?
Realisticly, sometime in the begining of next year, January or Febuary I would think. I hope to get there quicker, the first 5 actual production sets are coming back from the laser tomorrow so I will start to be able to see how long they take to make, and keep in mind that a lot of people pass on their spot in line, so 13 down may not end up really being 13 down.

I'm #3
Can I be #1 for the 80 side panels when you decide to produce them?

You (80 series) guys that are in a rush, need to pony up for the prototypes. Mine is sweet! It's honestly one of my most favorite mods to the crusher.

I'm close to the bottom of the 60 list, so put me at the bottom of the 80 list as well.
I'm also expressing interest, but not full commitment to the FJ60 side panels.
Thanks!

Got it Drew!
If you get thinking more seriously about the side panels, be sure to send me the pictures.

On not as much of a side note, I've been trying to work something out with a powder coater I found in the next town over.
We did some samples and put together some rates, but the coating doesn't have as much texture as I would like, and the rates are pretty high.
It looks like each panel would cost $70, they all take about the same space on the line and get the same rate, but that would mean that a side panel set would be $70 for each panel, bumping the price up $140 in that case.
The PC is crazy durable and very nicely done, but as of yet, I have not had any complaints as to the durability of the spray coating, nor do I have any myself.
There is also a certain warmth to the softer, more toothy texture of the spray coating as well.
I was not sure if I would post this info or not, being as how I am not really happy with the look or feel of the PC, but I was wondering what the general consensus would be?
So, what are your thoughts? Is it worth it? Are you interested?
It would need to be somewhat popular to work since I need to take a handful of parts to the coaters at a time, both for their setup and to make my trip worthwhile.
Some photos:
You can see how the coating on the steel no longer matches the texture of the plastic. You can also see how it does nothing to hide the welds on the hinge or even out the corners.

The PC does look good, but I'm a fan of being able to repair a scratch in the spray coat with a little more spray. On top of that, after a year of torture in my rig I couldn't justify the $70 price hike.

That's my reasoning as well.
Johnny, you and I still have the original coated plywood lids, and after 2 and a half years I am not about to swap anything out for the powder coated stuff. The frame and the lid have developed a nice patina of dents and scratches that I am rather attached to.
And in that time I have still not found it necessary to re-coat anything.

I agree. To correct myself, I haven't re-sprayed any scratch or dent on my lid. I love the character it has now, which kinda matches the "character" my truck has. I always joked that the panel looked to be in significantly better condition than the rest of the truck, which it still is

Yeah, but we drive trucks with plenty of "character" there are those out there without any rust at all...
You need to get over here (and bring back my impact) so we can swap out those rattley bolts. Your truck must vibrate 10 times more than most, wonder if the transfer had anything to do with it..... (posted from your building)
Enough about the 60, what do some of those pretty 80s think about the PC?

For the tailgate naw, it would be destined to get all marred up and just rattle canning PC just doesn't look right. After seeing the side panels I'd rather have the same treatment for the my 60 and 80 tailgate lids

Haha, that's true, especially those 80 things.
I'm rebuilding my case again today with those new bearings, so I should be able to get over there before I go back home. Surprisingly enough, only 3 screws are left and the panel hasn't fallen out yet
I'm hoping that I'll be able to drive my rig home this time instead of riding the train again.
End of random chat, that is until I catch you snooping around my building again.

For me, the increase in price wouldn't justify the minimal improvement on the return.
Oh, and can you please add me to the 60 series list (Sides and tailgate). I think I found one to add to the collection. I'll e-mail you when/if it gets dropped off. My 80 series has got to be one of my favorite mods.

I'll vote for the spray coating, too. No need to powdercoat for me...
This is gonna be a cool addition...

Thanks Kevin everything worked out. The inlaw was surprised! He actually had started to wonder about where he was on the list a few weeks ago but he never got around to getting back on the board. 2 satisfied customers!
Thanks again!
