rebuild birfs FZJ80 in central WA

A newish guy here have not posted in this area of the site.
I have a 95 80 series that needs the front end done. Birf rebuild and other stuff.
Do you guys know of a Central WA based mech. skilled in this?
It is looking bleak here in finding someone who knows what they are doing.
The local Toy guy (not the dealer) didn't even know what I was talking about then, after figuring out what I was wanting he said "just pump some grease in the hole in the top". Umm okay thanks I said.
That said I may just take it on myself and get it done right.
Ideas?

Hello there! Not too many shops on the eastside that specialize in that service. That being said there are a few on the west side of the mountains that do.

my shop in Sammamish Washington and Brandon in Olympia Wa. His username is olympiafj60.

If you can follow directions and have access to a jack, jack stands, and metric sockets you can rebuild them yourself. You should get a factory service manual for your year of your 80.

For a newbie it will probably take 4 hours per side.


Where in the 509 are you? I grew up in the palm springs of washington!

Oh yeah I have the factory manuals, they are invaluable.
I would say I am a decent mech. Lots of motorcycles and old BMW cars. I am sure I can do this but I have 3 kids, wife, job and an orchard. Time is so valuable!

I am in Cashmere just outside of Wenatchee.

You already have the FSM, get a good kit from cruiseroutfitters or one of the other vendors here. I think Marlin has kits too. If you aren't doing bearings, you could probably just source the seals/gaskets from CruiserDan or your local Toyota dealer. You can find lots of help here.

I realise you have little time for this kind of project but it is worth doing your self if there is no one that "knows" what they are doing. I was in the same boat a few years ago, no place to work on it and took it to a local "Asian import shop" that "knew how to do it". I ended up doing it again a year later because they screwed up the shims and the gear oil leaked into the birfs.

It wouldn't take you too long to pop over the mountains and drop the rig of at bull's though.
