I've posted this in the FJ45 Classifieds as well. Please comment on that thread:

Hi everybody, so I’ve decided to sell the Cameldog after finishing my trip to the States, I’ve put up ads in the windows and hope to either sell it on the road or on MUD. If nothing pans out by mid-December I’ll start posting on CL and eBay.

I’m asking $12500, which is $2500 less than what I put in to source, buy and ship the car. The $1000 odd dollars I’ve put in since I got here is not factored in. Since I'm going to by flying home soon, I'm open to reasonable offers.

The background of the truck is that I brought it in from Western Australia in September and have been road tripping the country with it ever since. I’m scheduled to fly out mid-Jan 2010 but would am happy to let go of the truck anytime after the 1st of December. I can drive it to your door anywhere in the Southwestern United States for the price of the diesel to get it there.

The most important aspect of the truck is that it is mechanically perfect. I’m not super-knowledgeable on LC’s but it all seems original (except the seats), drives straight and true, brakes sharp, comfortable highway driver. All the knobs, dials and switches work. Electrics all work as they should. I haven’t had a single issue since starting my trip. It’s taken highway and dirt track in 15 states like a champ, and I have avoided the Northern States to ensure that it hasn’t been exposed to any salted roads. I have replaced some parts, but it’s all been precautionary. The truck has been seen by various MUD members along the road, please feel free to chip in opinions or comments.

I haven’t got detailed pics of the cruiser (just lazy to unpack the whole thing to take the photos). If you want me to photograph something in particular I’d be happy to oblige.

Ok, the lowdown:

1983 HJ47 Troopie
Original 2H engine, currently on 214 000km (25 000 km put on since September)
Georgia title

The good:

Front disk brakes
Fairey overdrive
Nippondenso A/C that blows COLD
Extra 25 gallon long range tank
Dual battery system (but it is a 12 volt truck)
All fluids (including transmission and axles) replaced 5000 miles ago
Complete front axle rebuild 5000 miles ago by Proffitts Cruisers
Replaced rear slave cylinders
Replaces master brake cylinder

The bad:

Front seats not original (but very comfortable)
No rear jump seats
25 year old paint, so she don’t shine.

The ugly:

The metal part of the roof has rust in the two front corners and about halfway down the passenger side
The bottom of the back doors are pretty rusted.
The sides of the truck, along the point where the rear steps meet the side of the body are warped and I can see rust coming through. Nothing bubbling or crumbly, but it’ll need attention at some point.

To wrap it up, the truck has been good to me over the last few months. I want it to go to a good home. I am not trying to profit out of the sale, I've had my fun and just want to recoup whatever I can before I go home.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anything, if you want to know anything else I’ll be glad to oblige.

Yes you did Riaz!

I'm the guy at the coffee shop that stopped to chat. Having walked all the way around your rig in the parking lot I'd say that your description is dead on. The rust in the body is nothing unmanageable, absolutely nothing unexpected in a rig of that age.

Here's the lame cell phone pic I snapped of it.

I was impressed at how well it did accelerating up the little hill on your way North. That wasn't what I expected from a normally aspirated 2H at all (having never driven one).

Safe travels! Hope it sells for a good price--this truck deserves it. (or you figure out how to take it back with you)

Are you gonna be in Wyoming or Colorado anytime soon? I might be interested but would want to see it in person. Do you have a clear title? Thanks - Bob

Thanks for the input DanS hj45! Yup, she pulls strong! I have conflicted feelings about selling her. The spare wheel on the back in the pic is the original, made in japan- the result of a flat coming into Albuquerque.

2wheelbob, I'm in New Mexico, headed to Arizona, then SoCal... Wyoming is definitely off the cards. Maybe Southern Colorado, if you're serious. Why not PM me any part of the rig you'd like to see and I'll post the pics?

I'm not sure exactly what a clear title constitutes, but I have the registration, Georgia title, in the name of my importer, and a blank signed bill of sale from him for whoever buys the rig. You can call him and speak to him to make sure it's all kosher, he runs an established importation business.

Interested if you still have it. Thx

Cruiser stalker!!! :hillbilly:

Riaz,

Looks/Sounds like a VERY solid rig at a very reasonlable price!

I hope it won't have to come to putting it up on e-bay/CL and that you can sell it to a Mudder, but good luck with the sale!

Good luck with the sale!

Still available.

I'm posting a lot of (disorganised) pictures of the underside, interior and rust areas on the FJ45 Classifieds posting - https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-classifieds-corner/335331-1983-hj47-troopy-fs-solid-runner.html

If, after you've taken a look at the pictures, you're still interested, then PM me and we can get into details. I've had quite a lot of interest. I think the most fair way to work is the first person to seal the deal gets the truck. Is this the way sales are done? Mudder lifers, if theres another way let me know!

Scrappy:

I'm out on this one.

By all means, go with the first guy who gets the money in your hands. Don't play the "I got dibs without the money" game. MUD can be a frustrating place to buy sometimes because of this. My $.02 .

If you get into the SF Bay Area and want to grab a beer with a few local diesel cruiser guys, let me know - there are a handful of us in the area and we all love to shoot the s*** about cruisers and such.

Good luck with the sale and safe travels!

Cool, thanks for your interest BJ42Gringo! I'll bring my girlfriend to prove once and for all that there are others out there that are as crazy about cruisers as me!

What happened everybody? Did the pics scare y'all off? C'mon, somebody must want a continental-crossing cruiser!
