Complete 69 FJ40 For Sale, OH - Reduced $

I H8 to do it. I held out as long as I could. But realistically, it just won't ever be the same. I moved this rig from CA 2 1/2 years ago. I purchased it in CA in 2003 - no rust anywhere.

I drove it across the country in the fall of 2005. It made a few trips to the grocery store since, then my wife had a baby and the thing has sat in the garage for the better part of the last 2 years.

I fear I'll never use it properly here in Ohio and would be better served getting rid of it now or continue feeling guilty every time I look at it, which is every day.

It's great rig. It has all original steel, no replacement anything on the body. I did restore the hardtop as it came only with the 3 panels when I bought it. I replaced all the glass and weatherseals, reconstructed the hatch, and put a new fiberglass top cap on the thing. It looks real nice all together. I never got the headliner right. I still have the new headliner, but it needs reinstalled. I have the orginal hard doors and have worked on those a little as well. I have the original split bench seat which was restored nicely by the PO, as well as the original jump seats which I restored. I have the rear heater too with the hoses, but I never put it in. I did take out the split bench and put in a couple buckets - but those come out easy and I didn't really modify anything to put them in.

The rest of the rig shapes up as follows;

1969 FJ40
Purchased in Pasadena, CA August 2003
Original CA 40
Relocated to Seville, OH in September 2005
Driven maybe 10 times since, not a DD at least not for me or the guy I bought it from and he had it for over 10 years
Garaged for close to 2 years
Clean title (OH)

Engine:

Man-A-Fre Hi Performance 2F long block (rebuild) installed by MAF January 2005, maybe 4000 miles since, engine still under warranty
MAF Ceramic Tuned Headers
Derale Hi Performance oil cooler
HEI DUI Street/Strip Ignition
DUI Livewire plug wires and distributor
Weber 38 Carb
New MAF tuned exhaust and turbo muffler
Radiator installed by PO
Hi Performance Oil Cooler isntalled by MAF
Probably needs some tuning, has not run much the last few years

Steering:
Rebuilt steering box, rag joint, and center arm (still manual, but steers great, very little play, it really does steer well)
TRE’s replaced by previous owner
New front steering stabilizer
New steering wheel
This thing rolls pretty tight, and doesn’t wander at all. If my wife can drive it, it must be pretty good. And she truly loved to drive it.

Suspension / Tires:

OME Dakkar 2.5 inch springs, installed spring 2005
OME Nitro Shocks all around
4+ Greasable pins
4+ Greasable shackles
Poly Bushings
U-Bolt flip – rear axle
BFG AT 31x10.5, still full tread
Very stable and supple ride. Only about 4000 miles on the springs, they’re still breaking in but they are buttery smooth.

Frame / Body:
No Rust
Frame was cleaned up and powdered by PO, it’s solid
Body was painted thinly by PO. Has some light redneck pinstriping currently. The paint is not pristine, I used the rig when we were in CA
Body still original steel, no bondo or FG anywhere
Family roll cage
Have full hard top restored with new glass, seals, and new top shell.
Brakes / Lines / Master Cyl redone by PO

Extras:
Tiger Top Soft Top, with doors
Bikini Top
Full size Wilderness expedition rack with tire carrier
Both original jump seats, restored with new foam and covers
Original split bench front seat, fully restored as well (Currently have boneyard buckets up front)
Tuffy Center Console
New wiper motor installed (it works)
Heater kicks butt, new fan, hoses, duct work
Have rear heater too, but never put it in
New steel gas tank installed 2005
Soft half doors
Full hard doors, partially restored (everything but the felts and seals were redone)
Alpine CD deck in glove box, XM Ready, with custom SubWoofer, Waterproof Polk Audio Speakers mounted to roll bar, and 200W amp under driver’s seat. This puppy thumps even without the top !
A whole bunch of spare / original parts
Have dang near all the receipts and some from PO as well

Have a brand new heavy duty tow-bar as well, with brackets mounted on the front bumper of the cruiser - I never towed it.

This really is a clean rig, just needs a good home and someone to pay attention to it. I drove it across the US (CA to OH) when I moved, had no problems – the trip of a lifetime. The wife and I have loved every day we had with it, but alas we’ve got a brand new baby girl in the house, and we don’t get out much anymore. Plus, it’s hard to put a car seat in a 2 seater. Whomever takes it off my hands will be very happy with it.

$12,000 OBO

Here's a few pics. The 1st is the spring of 2004, after I restored the hardtop. It was before much of the later work (suspension) and I still had 33's on it. The second pic is with the Dakkar Springs and Nitro shocks, and with the soft top and expedition rack mounted (don't worry, they don't use road salt in CA). The 3rd pic is an obligatory engine shot.

I have lots of other pics. Email me if you have any questions -

To be clear - I am interested in selling and intend to sell, but I am not in a position where I must sell.

A couple more pics. The 1st a shot from near the East Walker River as it flows through Nevada. The rig is in full expedition mode with the bikini top and rack over it. The second is one of my favorites with the wife and the hound on a fishing excursion. The last is from the cross country road trip - somewhere in NE Utah.

Bumpity for a nice looking truck!

Just for clarity, what tranny & transfer is installed now?

Are the brakes still single circuit, non-power drums?

Way outta my meager price range, but I hope it goes to somebody in Ohio.
