FOR SALE: 1974 FJ55 Land Cruiser
[Updated July 5]
![]() ![]() I've got a great running '74 FJ55 with a monster V8 in it in. The front floors are were in rough shape but have been patched with 16 gauge steel, very solid. The underfloor supports are in rough shape in places but everything is solid now that it is patched. Body wise it's tough to say, there aren't any holes but it's got a rattlecan paintjob, and plenty of dents, the lower rear corners certainly have bondo in them. Make no mistake, this is a New England truck it has patches and fixes and rust and bondo. The front fenders are newish SOR pieces. We've apray painted over the PO's camo job in a nice navy blue with a white roof. It's a decent 10-footer. No secrets, all the gory details are here: http://forum.ih8mud.com/ma-nh-yankee...ghlight=Yankee It's a really good runner right now, the engine is fantastic, custom V8 (with dyno sheet and $3000 bill from the engine shop), it could use a new tstat gasket to be perfect. The motor has very few miles on it. I've got a STACK of receipts from the PO's and it was a woods find that they rebuilt into this. It looks like they built the 2F up for a long time then had the custom V8 built by a shop in Rhode Island. Brakes are great all around, front is all new disks, calipers and pads, back is stock drums in solid shape. Stock 4 speed and tcase and manual steering. A little noise that might be the throw-out bearing, but everything works fine. I've fixed all the little electrical gremlins, shorts, bulbs, etc. Added a horn button on the dash. I replaced the steering box/shock mount bracket, new shocks up front. 4 good 33x12.5 MT's (2 BFG, 2 General) on a nice set of correct width white steelies. New TRE's from Specter. Steering is as tight as a 33 year old rig can get, it goes down the road very nicely. I just cleaned up the drip rails an resealed but in the last storm I got a bit of water in, not sure where it's from as it's just as likely from the doors. I will look into it. Good glass all around. Good headliner and door panels. The front doors are newer but a bit out of alignment and a little rusty on the bottoms. They do latch and stay latched. Rear window works but needs a bit of help sometimes (probably needs the contacts cleaned). I have a box full of new door weatherstripping to install. Full SOR carpet set, full SOR seat covers (old), front bench is beatup and currently upholstered in duct tape underneath. Frame is solid... as near as I can tell. Full Garvin roof rack. (also available for sale separately) Complete new custom exhaust, done right running down the stock location, Gibson muffler. Sounds great but not overly loud either. Currently leaks gas when you fill it up, but I'll be fixing it this week or next. The gas gauge works just fine. The bottoms of the rear rockers are patched. They were previously wide open so I took out the rear cargo panels and cleaned it all up inside and sealed up the bottoms with metal and fiberglass. It isn't pretty but it's weather tight. I like the Pig, but I'd just rather have a 40. I'm cash-poor so selling this truck outright or trading for a 40 in similar state of repair makes the most financial sense. MUD PRICE = $4500 obro. Otherwise I'd be more interested in a trade for a 40 in similar shape. Email me at sporin AT gmail.com and let's talk. The truck is in Windsor VT (on the NH border, near Claremont and Lebanon NH) and it is registered and inspected, legal for the road. It's a cool truck, and I really thought it was what I wanted but ultimately my heart strings keep getting tugged by FJ40's. Now that my boy is older the convertible would be a lot of fun. Plus the smaller size makes it a more manageable project for my small space (and skill set) ![]() If you've always wanted a Pig for a good family offroader, this is the one. It's unoriginal and ugly so you won't feel bad scratching it up, but it's also put together well and not rusted to crap. Last edited by Sporin; 08-04-08 at 02:24 PM. Reason: UPDATED CONTENT |

Bump... just after I took those picks I tried to pull out, lets just say that patch of dirt/grass in front of the driver's fron tire doesn't look like that anymore.

I've got a '78 FJ 40 that is a good base for a project depending on your skills and an '93 FJ80 that would be a good driver while yu are working n the fawty. Maybe we could work out a swap? Naturally, we'd have to see each others rigs. I'll see you at tomorrow's meeting, we can talk. LC
