Where to buy ammo in Northern VA?

Looking for .45 auto ammo (Like everyone else!) Any suggestions?

ha, ur pretty much just SOL for .45auto. I've switched to .22lr and .40s&w, two cal that are always avail in qty.
Call up Bernie at VA arms in Manassas, he's usually got something on 'order.'

DH,

Like the avatar! Fortunately, I have a good supply of the above mentioned cal, as well as .22lr, but like anyone who is riding this wave of panic hoarding I would like to just go to the range and not use my reserve. I'll give Bernie a call, thanks for the lead.

I checked out VA Arms...they only had rimfire rounds, and .45 long in abundance. Nothing good.

Has anyone ever bought military brass at auction and reloaded it? I've been looking at a few pallets in 9mm, 5.56, 7.62x51, and some limited .45auto for about $150 bid total for anything between 4k lbs and 12k lbs lots. Reload them all once and never buy ammo again.

I believe they won't sell you the lot unless you promise to destroy the entire lot. I believe they are so serious they require you to provide proof of such destruction or they come after you. Definitely check the auction fine print before you bid.

I believe that the bidding party only has to destroy certain restricted items, such as 40mm grenade shells and starting size of 20mm cannon shells. Small arms brass under .50BMG seems ok and does not require destruction or proof of destruction. I'll look into further explanations when they are found available.

Looks like for a few days Smith was correct, but that law was quickly removed and military brass once again made available to be purchased by the public in whole non destroyed form...according to this source anyway--> snopes.com: DoD Suspension of Brass Cartridge Casing Sales

That is certainly good news! I would still read the fine print before bidding so you don't end up with a bunch of scrap.
