timing light?

Anyone have a timing light i could borrow not too far from DC or Mclean? I am trying to time the mini truck 22r and it is too advanced. i am suspecting my timing light is bad. Truck is currently in Mclean.

Thanks all.

S.

The autozone near me loans them out....maybe worth a try up in your area ( if there is an AZ up there )

Cool, lets adjourn early and play with timing lights. I will bring mine so we can check it against others.

I had such a CF once with a bad timing light...tore a motor apart for no reason because it was out of calibration. Did not find out until about a year later.

Good idea to check yours against another one.

Same goes for torque wrenches. They need to be calibrated.

Sebastian, the 22Re tends to ping. Advance it until it starts to ping and then retard it until it stops. I used to carry a wrench in my glove box because I had to do so often. It's kind of like the octane knob on the old Non-USA distributors, you have to monkey with it depending on your fuel. I suspect the ethanol...

Hey Sebastian, Take the hoses off of the advance unit and cap them before you check the timing.

Yeah, i did that, but it is still timing way past BTDC. I think i have something else off. I am going to try to troubleshoot it this weekend. I will start by checking the distributor and coil, and some other emissions crap.

I checked my timing light against another and mine is working fine.

Have you been doing any wheeling up north?

I couldn't keep the timing stable on my rig - turned out the bolt holding the distributor was stripped, but it still held the cap in place to look enough like it was okay.

No wheeling for me up here. My truck is out at Brother Burls place hibernating. I don't think the town would be to happy with me parking that thing in front of the house.

Yeah but there'd have to be a trailer and my Suburban to haul it around with parked there too. I may bring them up this summer and keep them at the shop.

Shouldn't you be coming back to VA this summer? Don't tell me actually want to STAY in Boston.

Hey, it will finally be warm up there. He has to stay to enjoy summer; it only lasts one month after all

Ryan, have you taken up duckpin bowling yet? Got into fried clams (damn I miss those)? Checked out King of Pizza on Tremont? Lost any 'R's?. Boston's my hometown (land of the lost R) and I had to work to properly speak with an R once I left New England.

I had a landlord up there once tell me this guy was shot. I didn't know if he meant the guy was short or shot - he says them both the same! Boston definitely rocks.

What's Duckpin bowling? No Clams for me, believe it or not i went Vegatarian in October. i haven't found the king of Pizza yet. Ernestos in the North end is awesome. We actually live just North of Boston in Everett. And yes I've started dropping R's goes great with the Texan in me that drops "ing" as well.

Ryan, Beantown is a great place.

If your into riding bicycles, I have a friend up there that is a bike guru.

He works at one of the big shops downtown and is a great resource for anything cycling.

I grew up riding sun up to sun down. I tried to get back on a bike over the summer and there is no way my knees will take it anymore. But yeah Boston is great. There is always something to do here.

Ed Levine, a pizza writer recommended Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square; Picco in the South End; Ernesto's and Pizzeria Regina in the North End; and Santarpio's in East Boston. I think the King of Pizza is gone. I believe it used to be at the corner of Washington and Boylston.

Duckpin is the same as candlepin. Shorter narrower pins than regular bowling and you get three smaller balls per frame. That's all they had there when I was growin' up.
