Thanks Craig! I didn't have any back seats when I got her. Post pics of your hoist when you're done.

Oh it's got dings and scratches. It has a new one now since a gust of wind blew the fiberglass cap that was gently resting against the hedge onto the driver's side door. Also, I used the "pretty" filter on my iPhone.

What are those half-doors made out of? They look like carbon fiber but I'm guessing it's more like black diamond coating?

Dave,
Would your "pretty" filter make my 40 look that good?

Regular old shiny diamond plate. I painted them glossy black. I saw Bob did it and I really liked it.

Guys, please, the "pretty" filter can only do so much. In some cases, vaseline on the lens may be required.

Dave,
Come a long way from the day you were in my driveway thinking about selling it with oil leaking out of the transfercase like it had a bullet wound and a zip tie holding the throttle cable to the brake line on the master cylinder...was that the truck that I adjusted the caeb on? IIRC it had no return spring on the carb and the throttle cable was rigged on with tape and a radiator hose clamp. Some real nice work on behalf of the P.O. It's come a long way man!
Where are the pics of the Emu and new tires?
Looks great, enjoy it.

Thanks John! I was totally ignorant when I bought it so I had no idea what to look for in a 40. I'm still pretty ignorant, but I know a lot more than I used to. Yeah, the t-case puked on your driveway - sorry. I think you tweaked the carb. Would you believe the throttle cable still has the hose and the hose clamp? Ryan, and certainly not I, didn't have any better solution. Hey, it works. I don't think the other stuff was my rig, but maybe.
The OME is going on shortly. The new tires will have to wait. The ing washer and dryer had to be replaced.

Dave,
We are all learning - no matter how long or how many Cruisers we've owned. I once heard that "expert" means no longer learns, a sad thing.
All said and done, I think you got a decent truck. You should see some of the POS that I had back in the day.

Only "decent"?!?! I think it's a spectacular specimen of a 1970 FJ40. I mean, come on, the leaks are contained, the wiring is at least a few years away from falling apart, and it has tractor paint!

Awesome! I'm planning on taking my hard top off for the first time also this weekend. I have the Supertop too, but I think it's an older version because there's "snaps" for the sides to adhere, not that plastic retainer strip that fits on the sides and back corners. I'm assuming its an older version.

I think the snaps are the Tiger top, another Bestop product.
