Very cool! I saw those treads on a truck a few years ago and definitely coveted. If only I had a use for them...ha

In the garage

Can you drive that on the street and what is the top speed? It looks like you can remove the tracks and put on regular tires and wheels?

John,
That's the plan. Starting to go through it system by system and just figure out what I really have here. It took almost half a week for the truck to de-thaw. Remember it was practically frozen all the time. Block heaters really do work well in the winter time. Theoretically the original wheel studs were not cut to install the MatTracks so it should be possible to bolt up normal tires. Power steering is leaking a bit but should be 'ok'. Turning the MatTracks was a real chore for the steering box. Per manufacture the top speed on the tracks is 40mph. I don't believe those are street legal. The fuel injector pump has a manual hard line to turn off and on. The first time is weird. You pull the cable out to start, throw out the clutch and crank to start. After started you can take the keys out of the ignition switch and the motor just keep running. You need to push the fuel control cable back in to cut the fuel off to starve the engine to stop. The glow screen is hooked up to a momentary push button. Much simpler and less computer crap under the hood. The journey of exploration begins, Cahil __________________ ..... 67 Red FJ40 - SBC, Holly, NV4500, SOA 87 Blue FJ60 - Cummins 6BT, NV4500, OME, SUA ..... coupla' parts rigs too ... |

Thank you!!!
But what you don't see very well is the Cummins 6BT and NV4500 driveline conversion under the hood. Cahil __________________ ..... 67 Red FJ40 - SBC, Holly, NV4500, SOA 87 Blue FJ60 - Cummins 6BT, NV4500, OME, SUA ..... coupla' parts rigs too ... |

I moved all of my tools onto a diamond plate peg system. I'm glad you made use of those rails. They served me well.
Yep, moved to LA about 9 months ago. Came out here for my wife to put together a merger. I hope to move back to Vienna at some point, not sure when. Could be this summer or a bit longer. I hope to be more active in the LC scene now that the real estate market had dried up and I am not flipping houses anymore. That is a WICKED truck. I know a thing or two about the 6BT as I've had 3 or 4 CTD Dodges. Great motor. I'd love to see that thing in person, we'll have to get you over to the Vienna Inn and have a look. You going to put road wheels on it for around town use? It will be awesome if there is a bad snow next year and you can drive that thing on the beltway. Would be awesome to take to Dolly Sods. |

For the tracks I'm going to mount them on my red FJ40 for the winter and take it out to Dolly Sods. The ski house I manage in the winter out there has a very large two truck garage with plenty of room. The house is very accessible to Dolly Sods without going on a major road. Sweet. What really impressed me with this build is the mechanical fan is in there. Usually there's not enough room to use a mechanical fan. Not quite sure how they got everything to fit, but it's in there. Spinning out for some much needed vacation and when I get back I'll snap some more pic's and post them up. Cheers, Cahil P.S. Grabbed a stock but messed up 1985 BMW 524td (turbo diesel) yesterday. Gonna see what I can do with it. __________________ ..... 67 Red FJ40 - SBC, Holly, NV4500, SOA 87 Blue FJ60 - Cummins 6BT, NV4500, OME, SUA ..... coupla' parts rigs too ... |
