FJ40 cover

Hey Guys....
I need to cover my FJ40 but I don't want to shell out 300+ dollars to SOR for their custom cover.

For those of you that do cover your 40's, what do you use??

Thanks
Doug

Tarp. But I have a cover for winter use. Offhand, can't remember where from, but it wasn't cheap.

update: it was a coverking. But it now has duct tape in spots.

Lost your garage, huh?

Craig (breckbone) has one from http://www.calcarcover.com and is very happy with it. The price varies by what material you choose.

I'll look into that...$200 is still a bit pricey for me right now.

Yes, I lost the garage. "I'm the Master of my Domain......"

Tarp. But that was only between the months of April and July 2005. It was the first good weather after I'd gotten the 40 and I didn't have any soft top. The hard top had to come off.

I forget if you have a soft top or not, Herb. If not, why not just spend a couple hundred more than the car cover and get a soft top? If you've got a soft top already, do you REALLY need a cover?

Hey Felix,
Yes, I do have a soft top...but I'm just trying to keep the rust away...and I figured covering it would be a good way to do that for the entire truck.

Dan, I wish I could. Maybe in a few years when the boys grow up and have fewer Toys/Balls/Bikes/Sticks/crap in the garage. Until then, the cruiser is on the street.

I am a blue tarp guy but once this guy figures out the proper measurements for a cruiser I am getting one of these. http://forum.ih8mud.com/chit-chat-section/168762-another-trail-cover-design.html

How about specialized storage: bikes hung from ceiling hooks, compartments for balls/sticks/stuff to organize them out of the way? Is that doable?

I'm doing that already..in a big way. It is more about access to this stuff for my kids. They are still kinda small and would have a hard time getting to stuff.

Also, it would be nice to be able to put my daily driver in the garage...so I figured a car cover might be a good idea for the cruiser.

Gotcha. Well, I gotta tell ya, once I go through the hassle of covering mine, it's' up for the winter. Not sure how long term coverage you've got in mind, but thought I'd throw that in there.

Me, I'd rather have my cruiser in the garage than the dd, as the cruiser hardtop and other places leak water bad (hence the cover). Plus, it's already there when/if you get a notion to wrench.

My dd stays dry as a bone, since it's a 2004. New.

I can acknowledge the option of inclement weather windshield coverage of your dd though. Scraping ice and whatnot can be a pain.

You know...maybe that is the route to take....a windshield cover for the dd...and then try to pry the cruiser into the garage.

I'll see what I can do....

I'll try to post pix of my Calcarcover later today. It's been great and is a breeze to put on/take off. (now I feel like I'm doing a commercial)

Also, we are moving to a new house that has a garage
and might be looking to sell the cover. I'll post when we move (mid-Dec).

Craig

Autoanything has them

http://www.autoanything.com/car-covers/60A1012A0A0.aspx

Cost about $265.00. Works well. I still put a $10.00 blue tarp underneath it for a little added water defense.

Hey Craig, I'll be interested when you are willing to sell. Just let me know....

Colorado Boy...that evolution 4 material looks pretty sturdy. Thanks for the picture.

Bastard! Doug, that cover only fits '70 and earlier 40s. Craig, I'll take it off your hands.

i have been tarping mine with a brown tarp from HOme depot. keeps water out really good, but you got to replace them every 1-2 years. cost... around 25-30$ i think. Need to watch out for sharp edges that can cut holes into. UV usually breaks it down after a while.

I am looking to get a nicer cover though. tarp looks kind of ghetto...
