I need to Get Out!!!

I need to get out for another wheeling/camping trip before the Fall Crawl. Brother Burl can make it the weekend 8 & 9 and I'm looking at GWNF (more camping than wheeling but it's fairly close), Shoe Creek (more camping than wheeling but it's fairly close), Crozet (the wheeling is good but the camping is in a pasture), or good ol' Rausch Creek (good wheeling and camping but it's not exactly close). There's also the VA FWD trip later in September but this in close, schedule-wise, to the Fall Crawl.

Anybody interested in a trip and any preference on the location?

I would be in, the only issue is I am all stock including street tires. I would have to see where you guys are going and see if I can hang. Will keep an eye on this thread.

Jmvar,

If we end up at GWNF or Shoe Creek you'll be fine. Rausch Creek has trails for all levels but you need a minimum of two trucks in the group so we'd have to find someone to pair you with. Crozet is probably not a good option for you in a stocker unless you don't care at all about body damage.

Is Madison still closed?

What part of Shoe Creek was it where I got stopped on a hill and we used your friend's cable to pull me up? Was that old long something road that's now closed?

Dan,

As far as I know, Madison is still closed. The trail you're thinking of at Shoe Creek is also closed. Sounds like you mean "Old Long Run Road" which is also closed (see a theme here?). If we go anyplace local it will be more of a camping trip than a wheeling trip.

Matt,

Thanks for the offer but I can't go this weekend. I am planning on the Fall Crawl but I really hope I never need to borrow your spider gears ever again!

All,

If you all want a camping/wheeling trip on the 8th and 9th, let me know. Otherwise I say we meet the ALCA boys at RC on the 22nd and 23rd since Brother Burl is also off that weekend.

Hi all,

Thought I’d add some local info if it helps.

Va4x4 recently did a Shoe Creek Run and said a lot of has been recently marked off. This was a weekend or two after camp Jeep so we were wondering if maybe that trail got a lot of traffic those days.

I’m pretty sure Big Levels is open (good for stockers) and that trail is near Sherando Lake which is a very nice state maintained campground (also close to Shoe Creek).

Also, Misty Mountain Campground is supposed to be nice and is about 15 min from Crozet on RT 250.

A plan is coming together finally. Most likely RC the weekend of 9/8 - 9. I'll likely head up Friday night and Dale's coming Saturday morning, we'll see about Brother Burl, Dan, Sebastien and anyone else who's interested. So far it looks like a Blue/Black crowd but getting a couple of stockers could give us a Green group. Camping at RC, I need to build up my tolerance before I can go back to Shithole Vallet for the Fall Crawl.

Can you get a kitchen pass Jeff? I may be able to find another bottle of Woodford.

Jeff,

You're welcome to a seat on the trails but you at least need to drive the 45 to RC.

September 8-9

I may have to change my plans to go to the Penn State -Notre Dame game on the 8th to wheel with you guys. I may feel the need to get the piggy out of the green/blue routine. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how plans materialize. Timing is actually perfect as it is about four weeks before the Fall Crawl. Thanks for setting this up! Gary S

racefanmartin: this coming weekend 8/25, is the Pre-fall crawl shake down run, sponsored by the BBRC crew.

This impromtu run thread is for the weekend of 9/8. Just so you don't get your dates mixed.
